May have been factory colour once, but looks a little shabby now. Could do with a cut an polish, maybe?

    It's a swallowtail too.

My first Golf was that colour, looked great clean and polished, I covered over 320,000 kms in that over 4 1/2 years and competed in gravel rallies in it. My brother still has it in his backyard. 3dr.

Shouldnt say this but I bought that car in 1977!! Before a lot of you were born I guess!!

It is still sitting in my brothers back yard and hasnt been driven for over 12 years. I havent seen it for about 10 years. I used to have trouble with bending and seizing thge front koni struts and had to repair a couple of cracks in the body near the LHF floor section.
I had a lot of fun in it and it was only 12 months old when I bought it. 14,500 kms on the clock. I won a rally in it and it was noted that it was the first rally win in Australia for a Golf at that time.
I must scan some pics of it. Got a few wild ones around!
I have had many Mk1s since and mainly GLS models which were a lot nicer to drive.

So what's the difference in driving experience between an LS and a GLS. More comfortable seats, or something more substantial?

apparently they were worlds apart when new. GLS was meant to be a big improvement in refinement and etc. So I heard from someone who test drove a couple when they were brand new.

The 77 on GLS was built in Germany and were a lot tighter in the body, more refined, and quieter inside.
The 76ers were assembled at Clayton Vic. and I remember replaceing silly things on them in their first 12months. Rear wheel brgs were shot on one for instance.
The swallow tails were the very first of them here and the only differfence was the rear panel and on some, were missing the roof lining on the inside of the rear pillars, C pillars.
Air pumps and anti pollution gear were fitted in october 76 on..
Having said all that, my 76er never suffered any unusual problems apart from bad valve stem seals which they all had. Easy fix and we used to do heaps of them!
