Looking at it closer though it's probably earlier than '79 as it's got chrome bumpers and door handles.

There's no towing eye's in the panels either so it's never been a plastic bumper car.

Dash board speaker grill is wrong for '79 too.

1979 should have the remote adjust mirror on the drivers side.

All of the '79s I've seen have all been German built GLDs.

I'm thinking it's one of the last Aussie built ones, maybe a '77?

That colour interior is pretty rare, and I've only ever seen it in 78's... (what I believe to be 78's anyways)
