Lawny, I've seen this car(briefly), as a guy called Dean owns it. He bought my old Weber for another of his Mk 1's and I met him opposite the Museum to do the exchange...he rocked up in the Cabby. I think he told me he bought it fairly cheap (like less than $1k), but it's an auto and an ex-USA import, so quality of LHD to RHD conversion would be high on my list to check.....

alright..... so i just went and had a look at it and.... well..... i probably wouldnt buy it unless it went for well under $1000. IMO it needs an entire respray, dont think a cut and polish would be enough for this one and there are some deep scratches in the bonnet. the roof is quite faded and the repair that was made to it on the passenger side stands out quite a lot, a bit less than a metre in stitching and there are are some rips on the inside. the interior is really dirty and some rips, not sure if a good steam clean would fix it and it smells of cigarette smoke pretty bad. under the hood there is alot of oil spray on the bonnet and also underneath the engine. he couldnt really explain what it was from except it had blown a head gasket before he bought it was his answer. it has only done 91000miles however. overall it does need quite a lot of work i think, even if you do only want it for a summer cruiser.

i am pretty sure i am out, he wants it to reach at least $2500 so i dont know if he will pull the pin if it goes nowhere near that. yeah its a good project but there does seem to be a fair bit of work. supposedly matt at volk affair has done the RWC and work on it so giving them a call about it might be a good idea. not sure even with the oil leaks how it passed the roady.

yeah, like I told in my pm, his missus was puffing away in the Cabby, when I saw it, so the smell doesn't suprise me !

(even at less than a $1k, i'd be pushing it to even make this thing worth it for parts !!)
