Unfortunately Statutory Write-offs can't be registered anywhere in Australia, regardless in which State it was written-off

From what I have heard from a crash repairer mate, cars that are stolen get written off after some time if they can't be found, and occasionally cops bust someone or whatever, and because someone has been payed out for the car(insurance) its a stat. write off. no idea why its not just repairable, as there's nothing wrong with it. Don't quote me on it though, as I can't guarantee that what he told me is 100% correct.
