Moron in a Blue mkV R32 - Wickham Street

Some idiot that felt the need to beep a bus for a block, just because it ws trying to drive it's route.

Does the little give way sign on the back of the bus not make sense to you, ya friggin ****head.

I have read somewhere that the giveway sign on hte back of the bus is only valid if you are behind the bus and it is changing lanes.

If the bus is pulling out from the side of the road where it is parked to let passengers off then don't normal road rules apply and the bus has to give way?

My understanding is that it applies when behind the bus, or if the bus is pulling out and the speed limit is below 60km/h. Otherwise the bus must give way to you.

That aside, the guy in the R32 was completely in the wrong in this situation (the bus was making a turn, not pulling out) and diserved a bus through his passanger side door.

I have no doubt the guy in the R32 was wrong and shouldn't have used his horn (also illegal to use it this way)
The problem is that most bus drivers are now getting worse and will just pull out at you or charge up a merge lane becasue they think the sign on the back means tehy have right of way over everyone anywhere on the road.

This is what i found after a short search on google

One thing none have mentioned is that, the sign means nothing unless on a single laned road where the bus is pulling out from the kerb and ONLY in a 60kph zone, if on a road that HAS double lanes or the bus is pulling out from a bus bay and there are marked lane lines, then the rules are as normal, cannot change lanes unless it is clear and safe to do so like every other road user.

A misconception is that this giveway sign gives a bus right of way, IT DOES NOT.

Now unless they have changed the road rules since i was a bus driving instructor for Sydney Busses then i stand corrected, my motto was never change lanes or pull out from the kerb unless safe to do so.

I did think that buses had right of way in most situations, but I guess not.

I will still be giving them right of way though because they're much bigger than my wee golf. And frankly, can you imagine the crap they have to put up with from other drivers all day long.

A bit of common sense, like don't overtake a turning bus on the inside, would be nice.

Australian Road Rules - Section 77

"A motorist driving in a built-up area, in the left lane or
left line of traffi c must give way to a bus if the bus has
indicated that it intends to move back into your line of
traffi c from a bus stop.
For this rule, give way means the motorist must
slow down and if necessary stop to avoid a
    collision.
The driver of the bus must give the change of direction
signal for long enough to give suffi cient warning to other
    drivers and pedestrians.
The bus then has right of way."

Once the bus has merged into traffic from a stop, then normal road rules apply.

unfortunately a large number of Melbourne bus drivers apply the nautical 'might has right' principle, which has led to a couple of fun incidents while out on the motorbike...
There is no Golf in my life. This is unacceptable...
