Surely to save an early rebuild.
That's fine for a carb'd car but would probably lead to difficult starting on a K-Jet.

If my car suddenly looses all oil presure it's probably time for a rebuild anyway.

I should label that lamp "REBUILD INDICATOR"

Started stripping down a 2.0 2E bottom end to swap into the car today.

I just figured out how to do the serpentine belt, which I wrote about here http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=19887

Today I also cleaned out the waterpump and added a colder thermostat (80°) and new o rings.

This is an interim arangement until I build something better next year. It should provide the torque that's been missing. It will be interesting to see a 2.0 with an 1800 KJet head on it go.

There's a few things to sort out along the way.
    • Distributor needs a spacer made.
    • All new gaskets and seals
    • Serpentine belt setup
    • block off plate over crankcase breather box. (will also mount WUR)
    • RHS engine mount will need modification as alternator bracket will foul.
    • Windage tray to fit.
I've also got a close ratio box on the way thanks to Golf Loon.

I'll do the engine mounts while its out, I've got a full set of urethane ones to go in (I like engine noise).

If I can figure out the clutch thing I'll do that too.

    Watch this space!

The pics will come soon enough, I'm bed ridden for the rest of this week recovering from knee surgery but that just gives me more time to do some internet shopping for a new clutch, 4.17 ring and pinion (long shot that one, only came in MK1 Caddys) and a few service items I forgot, crankshaft bolt, large engine mount and urethane insert and another cheaper accessory belt to have as spare.

I'll be sure to pop up a pic of your handiwork on my freshly repaired timing pulley too thanks again. Really must find the time to learn how to use my own lathe to that extent one day.

Still can't (shouldn't) put too much weight on the knee so I spent some time today with some of the fiddly bits and cleaning.

Got to use my crank sproket bar again.

New seals throughout means cleaning the crud off the surfaces so the oil seals don't chew out straight away.

This motor looks pretty good so far, all original gaskets and not one was leaking. Mind you some of the oil seals really didn't want to come out.

VW Motor Sport windage tray fitted up.

I've been missing my red spray can lately.

The alloy parts brighten up well with a steel wire brush.

I'll write up the specific stuff you have to do to run one of these blocks in an earlier car and post it up in the conversions section. You can see here I've partly blocked of the crankcase breather setup with a 40mm welsh plug, I've still got to make up a plate to block off the rest of it yet. You can also see the dizzy adaptor I'm making up, there's still a lot of turning to do on that one, I'm waiting on a spare 1600 dizzy for reference measurements.

No particular hurry, drop it by if you're in the neighbourhood.

I notice that nice shiny sump has no ripple strip marks on it yet.. You need to lower your car.

Everything looks very nice and shiny and good n stuff pete. Heck, you might have even given me some motivation...
