Great work, Pete. I like the second video, but each to their own i guess.
Only one question, why were you short shifting into 5th? (And i do mean that as a question, not a criticism..)
Every thing in the speedo layout is changeable.
I could bump the banner to the top or get rid of it completly.
Is the track map useful? It's a PITA to hash the data to draw it with my woeful excel skills.
Might even do round 3 with the speed overlay only just to see how it looks.
I think I caught the orange car, I'll have to look at the rest of the footage for that session. Youtube limits the length to 10minutes.
There were some really fast minis in my session, oddly the newest BMW ones were quite slow.

Dunno, seemed like a good idea at the time?
I was just trying out stuff, couple of times I shifted into 5th a bit soon.
Up the back straight is a fair climb, I could do with more HP If I couldn't get it to accelerate in 4th any more I'd grab 5th to give the motor a break.
Or maybe I was trying to find third gear, it is a MK1 after all.
Don't work on the assumption that I know what I'm doing out there either !

The only way to get better is to try different things...
I thought it may have been because the engine wasn't making a lot of HP up high (being a 2L) and in 4th it wouldn't pull above those RPM, making it necessary to grab 5th a bit early.
You say you probably don't know what you're doing, but you're still (at least) 1 step ahead of me.. You're actually competing with your car, and big ups for it!

Had to re-wire a chunk of the engine bay loom today. Didn't want to hit the track again with who knows what going on in the loom.
Here's what I extracted the engine bay. The hot wire to the temp sender had melted everything together all the way through the loom.
A bit hard to see but the old loom is at the bottom and the new one just above it.
I removed the un needed glow plug wiring and added a tacho sense wire into the loom.
Still need to find another two pin temp sender or work out how to convert the dash to the more common single pin type. I've included new wires in the loom but can't connect 'em 'till I sort out the sender. Meanwhile the VDO temp gauge is working fine so I'll just keep using that.
