AFAIK you need a decent surface to stick vinyl onto, so if it's just faded you should be right BUT if it's cracking or bubbling or lifting... well you're out of luck.
So instead of getting a repaint? (why paint your car anyway?) anyone want to tell me how painting works? 2pac w is that?
So a cheap option is to wrap the roof to prevent it going rust.

If anything, wrapping your roof will make it MORE prone to rust. Just look at any 70's car that came out with a vinyl roof
