Ahhhhh, having to be rescued by mates with a trailer, brings back so many memories.
Congrats on getting 1st place, well deserved in my opinion and on getting back home (eventually). Great to hear that George helped out so much. I bet you don't get that with modern car owners.
What are you looking at to replace the 1.6?

2.0 is much more fun though. A big improvement in performance and it's still pretty easy to fit into the MK1. Yeah if you go 1.8, a bit higher compression ratio is really nice. All the 2.0l engines have reasonable compression ratios anyway because they are from the 90's, but some of the 1.8's aren't that peppy.
Found out why the motor gave way.

The sump plug must of come loose on the hwy :mad: and no I never done a oil change on this engine,but yes I should have checked.
Doesn't help that the oil psi warning light came on after the motor failed.
It's out.....

Just fill it back up with oil yeah?
The damage has been done dude, it had a bottom end knock before it conked out. Suspected thrown bearing at the least.Quote:
