    If you ended up buying my 1.8t swap I could possibly do the install. Price would vary with what you wanted done.

    Fly stu up for a weekend, pay him in sexual favours and he'd have it done for you in no time haha.


    In all honesty, get your head into it and do it yourself. If you're buying a whole VR6 then it'd make it even easier to figure out how it goes together.

    Because this has to be a quick swap only those who have already done it should be considered. That limits your options to just a few. Camden GTI or Canberra VW Centre in Kiama if you are going professional. If you are going private then people like Schalke or a few others (if they are willing) and even then these people have jobs so they can only do the work at nightime or on weekends.

    Why do you want to convert your MK3 when it would be easier to just buy a VR6. If you are paying someone to install a VR6 motor into your car it might be just as expensive as buying a VR6.

    A simple install can quickly jump super high in price. Why would you have the engine out without doing all of those fiddly **** that goes wrong... Chains pumps etc. a cheap swap quickly escalates in price, it's hardly worth it when your car runs fine as is!

    Should buy the VR, and slowly do all the maintenance parts on it, until you're done and then do the swap. Then you know you've got a solid base to build off.

    Well Stu did say to grab a quote off him but yeah, again, if I had the tools then I'd totally attempt this myself.

    Never said it has to be a "quick swap". I'm more than willing to take it down to Camden and let them handle it all and I'm not afraid of the costs. Why do I want to convert my mk3? #because3doorVR6

    Again, not concerned about price. I want it done properly and if it means paying a bit more to get it done, then so be it. And if the engines out I will be changing gaskets, chains etc, it's the logical thing to do.

    The one I'm looking at buying is a 2nd owner (he's a mechanic) and he's had it for the past 6 years. Only problem is the bearing in the clutch is on it's way out and that'd be a "simple" fix if the whole lot is out of the car.


    Seriously guys, I didn't ask for an argument just for the sake of it. I'm glad you're all sharing your opinions and I'm taking what you say onboard but to get things very clear, I don't have the time or the tools or even the garage to tackle this myself, if I did I wouldn't be here asking for suggestions of your recommended mechanics!
    I'm not afraid of costs (I quite simply don't care) I just want your suggestions on who I should send my 3-door to to put a nice VR in.

    Then give Matt (Camden GTI) or Pete (Canberra VW Centre but located in Kiama) a call.

    Both have done multiple engine swaps. Matt's turbo MK1 Scirocco is amazing and Pete's workshop Caddy truck doubles as a very fast track car/ute.

    And they're both nice guys to deal, have been in the VW business for over 20 years and won't rip you off.
