You can contact the VASK.org.nz guys as there are quite a few ABF builds there.
It is still an option and depending how much the bodywork costs, I may well do just that. The stock set-up will basically cost me nothing, so I would be foolish to rule that out. I'm actually getting BoggBrothers to quote me on a bike 'throttle body' set-up, as I figure I may as well arm myself with as many options as possible. I really 'rate' well set-up aftermarket ecu's and in all honesty, am more likely to find a good tuner, if I steer clear of carbs. And Ecu motorsport features are cool.
Cheers for the heads up on the NZ stuff...will check that out for sure.

tough decision, those carbs will look awesome, but the seat setup is already paid for and tunable...

dont forget t o replace all you can while the engine is out - timing belt, water pump etc... much easier now even if it doesnt really need it - cheap insurance

Thats a pretty good price for carb/manifold etc etc.

I do agree you'd be taking a little bit of a risk on the carbs as opposed to the factory ECU or even aftermarket ECU and ITBs.

Remember the atmospheric conditions will be difference between here and there, so I wouldn't be suprised if there were a few issues. Maybe talk to a local dyno/tuner (can't be too many in canberra ) and see what they say.

Actually Jarred, with your 'prompting', I have decided I'd be mad NOT to fit the factory set-up...at least in the beginning. It's free, I already have it and it's going to be a quick little car anyway. I will research chip upgrades too. I can always do something else with the induction set-up further down the track. Thank you

I'll be getting a mobile quote on the bodywork next week, so my aim is to have to car as bare as possible by then.
I'm getting quotes for rust repairs alone, repairs and basic matched respray and a full strip/repair/respray/re-colour. I may yet decide to just get the bare minimum done to have it solid, as now I've had a decent look, the body isn't TOO bad afterall.
    We will see.
I got a little bit further stripping the interior today...

    Hard Parked...

I must say, as a new comer to getting my hands dirty on the Golf, having a "Bentley's" manual is certainly a huge help.
I just wish I could track one down for the Cupra...but no joy yet.

I believe that the Bently manual is a US based publication and IIRC USA didn't get Seats? Pretty sure the USA also never got the ABF, which is why there isn't alot of US based aftermarket stuff (in comparison to the UK, where there is plenty)

Glad to have been for assistance. Just for the record, I'd love a set of twin carbs or something on a valver, pure porn. Hope this doesn't confuse you too much, but I think that the factory EFI would be so much easier to set up and more reliable., plus you've already got the engine there - complete and running. Just remember there will be a fair bit different with wiring looms between the EFI and carb, and small difference in fueling setups, incase you do decide to switch or upgrade etc.

16v's have a lot of potential...as Jarred said, check out clubgti forum. Lots of info on there how to squeeze out as much power as possible!
Also work looking into the archives too, two guys who do alot of playing about with ABF 16vs are GVK and Tubthump. they did alot of inlet manifold changes and head swaps (ABF v KR) and cams. They were getting 180bhp out of their motors all day long with really good torque too.
Also Paul (16vcab) is a master of valvers on there.

    good luck

Haha, this is the whole reason around my original dilemma! The 'porn' factor
