If it's anything like putting a 2.0 from a MK3 into a MK2 then you shouldn't have any problems.
Ive got A 95 Mk3 with good 2.0L ADY and 5 speed but the rest of the car is showing its age, with 244000 on the clock.
I just picked up a 98 Mk3 with a 1.8L ADZ and busted auto for next to nothing for parts.
The 98 has only got 117000 on the clock and it's got a better body, paint, interior and fresher suspension.
So i was thinking i should pull my good 2L and 5 speed and swap them into the low km 98?
I'm hoping it would be virtually plug and play?

I've been told it's a dash out job which i don'y mind. I just don't want to modify or fabricate. I'll go looking for auto to manual info, should be some on here.
ADY is multi point injection.
ADZ is single point injection.
Theres a fair bit more wiring in the 2ltr.
Its not a straight forward swap but can be done.
And correct dash will need to come out to swap harness etc.
