When I get new tyres and a new windscreen, then I'll drive it there.

So everything seems to be going ok so far. I've just paid for my annual holiday overseas so the windscreen/tyres have been pushed back a week or two.

However, once they're on, it's going to be ok to drive! One big thing that has been killing me though, is what to do with the engine. A few thoughts laid out:

    • I don't want to drop massive coin into the engine (ie more than a few $k)
    • My Peugeot runs 100whp, and I think it goes quite well!
    • This will be lighter, and driven in the higher revs
    • It is destined for the track, however will see a bit of driving around town
    • I was thinking 150whp would be the most I'd need
    • Exhaust/intake have to be factored into the cost
    • Labour as well, as I don't have any free time other than the odd Saturday

So basically, can I just do a rebuild/refresh of the 8v, stick in some cams, exhaust, intake and get 100whp?

Or should I go a 16v and spend cash on it to get up to 150whp+?

More thoughts: spend the basics to make it reliable and still able to overtake on the highway, then spend the rest on seats/suspension/tyres/etc. Please don't say, get a 16v and slap it in, because I don't have the time/tools to do so. I'm happy to get Jmac to do the engine side.

And where should I buy rebuild parts, and where to get it done in Bris, there's too much choice online!

    Thoughts?

16V would be nice, but it can always come later on.

I'd go with a few cheap bolt on mods for now. I wouldn't bother chasing power out of the old 8V, just enough to make it get up a boogie a bit.
ie, intake, exhaust & mild cam. Anything more, and imo, it's a waste of money. (Considering you could spend 1K on a fandangle head, but that's half way to a 16V later on down the track) I wouldn't bother rebuilding it, unless it needed it. In which case, a replacement might be cheaper anyways.

I reckon what Woody said. Concentrate on driving it. Getting out there, learning lines, braking points, cornering technique. Don't need loads of horsepower to be fast, or more importantly, have fun!

hope this helps, can't wait to see ya out on the track!

+1 The motor can come later. Get it out there and learn how to make it stop and turn first.

The engine is running so badly right now, I think I might need to get someone to take a look at it.

Running on less than 4 cylinders, and doesn't want to rev over 3k rpm.

Ok so an oil change, filter, plugs, leads etc and give it a good once over.

Then juts drive and save $$$ for somnething cool. You will then want a race seat, harness and wheel to hold you in once you get more confident.

Yeah did the oil, filter, plugs, leads, fuel filter. Just put in some 98, might have to drive it around for more than 15mins, to get it going a bit.

Thinking maybe 02 sensor, but I'll give it a bit more of a drive and see what happens. Already have the Momo wheel in too, it's nice!

Haven't touched it in a few weeks, just got back from Thailand.

Hoping to have Jmac take a look at the engine, however he is quite busy!
