Rotors and calipers, as I said in an earlier post

Mk 2 GTI calipers fit straight on as well? I didn't know that. I assume then that mk 2 hubs must be the same, or very similar to late mk 1 hubs. [the difference on the mk 1 hubs being the smaller ball joints on earlier models]

Mk2 has a completely different hub setup, These can be removed and replaced with Mk3 hubs and brakes.

Mk2 hubs do not fit a Mk1 as the offset and camber is different.

However, Mk1 GTI calipers and rotors are the same as Mk2, so that is the source for them in Oz.

I got filthy pulling out untold hubs and measuring stuff for you lot, I hope you are all grateful

    Always grateful Matt,

The GTi discs and caliper you sent fit fine on the Mk1 diesel!

I've heard mention of Mk1 GTI calipers being the same as certain Mk1 petrol calipers, the difference in disc thickness being accommodated by thinner pads. What Mk1's had the same calipers as the GTI's? I need a driver side caliper to complete my vented brake upgrade.

    Cheers
    Matt

    Not quite right there.

239mm 10mm thick solid disc (Diesel Std) use pad DB-128 18mm thick
239mm 12mm thick solid disc (Petrol Std) use Pad DB-105 14.8mm thick
239mm 20mm thick vented disc (GTI Std) use pad DB-242 15.3mm inner & 17.3 outer
    256mm 22mm vented disc (16v Scirocco) use pad DB411 15.8mm thick.

Caveat: I pulled this info from the Bendix catalog which isn't always right.

Diesel and Petrol Calipers can be the same with different pads to accomodate for disc thickness.

There's also a DB-145 listed for Petrol Golf but I've never seen this one in the wild

Sometimes the DB-128s don't work on the diesel discs, if in doubt the DB-105s are the safe bet, they'll work in either.

Audi 80 Calipers from 1978 - 1990 use pad DB-401 and bolt up to the MK hubs and work with the 239mm vented 20mm thick GTI discs.

I swapped my fronts to GTi vented rotors yesturday. and it all just bolted up.
All i had to do was bend and hammer the backing plate as the caliper fouled on it. would have cut it, but didnt have the grinder here.

Havnt driven it yet as car ha sno engine
