Looks like i will be buying a new set of bearings with the OEM type 6 piece thrust bearing. I'm not going to chance it.
If your using a higher spec clutch than the standard I would definately be using the 6 piece items, Always has been a case of you get what you pay for.
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,

    Awesome stuff as always Preeny!

Keep it up & I'm sure I'll see you out on the road in no time for a head to head "cruise" haha
Yep. JEGS is where i bought it from. Good price, quick and easy to deal with and crazy fast shipping.

I hope to go for a cruise with you some day, however i'm sure I won't be able to keep up! haha.

Yeah. Unfortunately the bearing set i got (.25 under) has the 2 piece thrust. I'll be running a Spec stage 4+ clutch most likely and i can't afford to have something like a thrust bearing let me down and destroy everything else! So now i'll be sourcing some genuine items.

When it comes to components like bearings, i don't care about cost- aslong as they work and last!

i noted that my aaz engine has the 6pc stock bearings and when i checked them about 20,000km ago (on 210,000km) they look almost new.

My dad still has the original 2pc thust bearings in his 500,000k 1.5D. I guess the 180mm pressure plate doesnt hurt too much

Yeah from what i can work out it's just to do with clutch pressure. The smaller, early stuff can handle it, but the newer engines with more power and therefore heavier pressure plates must be too hard on them. I notice VR6's etc have the 6 piece ones aswell.. Once again they have a heavier pressure plate.

JEGS' shipping is as fast as they say it is..

And.. Andy actually got something finished when he said it would be! Haha.

Now all i need is the right bearings (I'll get some sent from TT next week). Then i just need a clutch so i can get the rotating assembly balanced and we're in business.
