I had a flat black cluster for a long time in my old mk1's, after the factory silver wore away and got scratched. It was nice actually. And it definitely had a semi race look :-)
Preeny - on the carbs - are you going to road tune it yourself (I mean with family help, etc) when the time comes?

But yes, 8K porsche tacho is horn.
I can't be assed looking for it. But there's a mini thread in the 8V section on Vortex, where a guy with a worked 8V scans the tacho backing-sticker and photoshops it to include up to 10K RPM, also playing with the tacho gearing so it'll actually move better too.
Looked 100% stock and 150% awesome.

Stock Mk1 tacho is good for 11k.
