    what sort of kit (compressor, gun etc) did you use for that job?

    all your hard work has really payed off from looking at those pics! awesome!

    Yea stu's on the money with the setup Except it's 400L/min, not CFM. Also 3HP. Would set you back about $600 at the cheapest. Compressor isn't a super high quality one, but does the job, as does the gun. Nice and simple to use, perfect for a DIY'er. Some of the fittings and/or air hose wasn't a perfect fit, so I had air leaks which was annoying, but I work around that.

    Paint will need wetsanding to smooth it, and then buffing to make is nice and shiny. Roof and Bonnet aren't the best. I'll see how they come up after wetsanding, but I might give them another coat if I'm not happy with how they turn out. Finish off the gun wasn't the best in some places, but really good in others, go figure. A bit dissapointing, but I'm not a pro, and never claimed it! Got one big run and a few other small ones, they should wetsand out easily enough though [fingers crossed].

    After wetsanding, I'm planning on taking it to a detailer [or getting one to come here] to have a mop over the paint and get rid of the small wetsanding abrasions, and give it a decent shine.

    And the next time someone tells you that white is great cause it covers up all the imperfections, tell em it's BS! haha. White's just as shiny as any other paint, so don't expect a johnny mayer finish from a mick jagger base! To small extent, it is true though. Very small extent

    your inspiring me....:p......i keep going back to thinking ill have a go at the few panels that need painting on mine but as its metallic it concerns me, i know its never going to be a pro job but if i could get it decent id be happy.

    ive done a flat red paint job before and it turned out pretty well after a lot of prep. smash repair places are so damn expensive and generally dont want to touch older project cars unless you throw thousands (5-6-7-8k etc) at them.

    i dunno...

    well, AFAIK, metallic's are harder to spray, cause you have to 'hatch' your spray pattern.

    It would be good if you had a mate that had a setup, so you could borrow him & his stuff, and get a small paint tin and have a crack at it. It may not be that hard after all.

    Alot of the paint work is what you do after as well. The way it's cut back is very important to final finish & depth etc. Hence why I'm getting a detailer to finish off my paint work.

    Perhaps do all the prep work, & have the car in primer, and then get a place to just spray and finish the car. Should keep the cost at around 2-3K I would imagine. All they are doing is spraying a whole car, so they shouldn't be too expensive. Prep is time consuming, so doing that DIY, could save thousands easily I reckon

    For my "ultimate golf" project [still planning & saving for] that is what I will be looking at doing. Depending on how much more talent & experience I get between now and then [AGGGGEEES away] will help me decide wether I do it or not. I won't be after show quality kinda stuff, but would want it to be pretty damn good, with the car kinda being my 'party piece'. I do enjoy bodywork & spray, & the feeling of having sprayed your car yourself is a pretty cool feeling. Unless its a really sh*t paint job!

    All depends on the pennies. If you're not confident with a gun or want a super top finish, I'd keep saving & get atleast the color & finishing done by a pro, that way it'll look top & you'll be grinning everytime you see it!

    Looking good Jarred, did you do the engine bay aswell or leave it yellow?
