Ryan's Ronal Turbo Table "Build Thread" :P

    Hey guys,

So I've been wanting to do this one for a while, but I've been waiting for the right wheel to do it with.

I've got a little setup going on in my place where, when playing the occasional game of Forza 4, I'd like to have a beer or two (safe drink driving, if you would).

Some of you might be familiar with the following chair, it's somewhat of a centrepiece of the room (albeit a repro as i'm not forking out 10K for an original). The problem is due to the angle of the arm rests you just can't rest a drink/remote/controller on it at all.

    Enter the need for a low-lying side-table.

Now sure, I could just go out and buy a flat-pack, non-descript table that would do the job, but I felt getting my hands dirty.

With Lewis (LWR) advertising Ronal R10's (Turbo) recently I thought I'd jump at the opportunity and begin the "build".

The wheel arrived safely in the new year with all of the original (1984) advertising material and centrecap/bolts.

I then needed a base, and after many days trying to suss out something suitable I found 2 of those cheap plastic barstools up on fleabay (one had a slight crack) and snapped them up for a 20

Given it was a wheel I felt it necessary to have a brake assembly beneath it so with many thanks to Hong, Tim and Lucas, I managed to get hold of a rear disc and caliper from a MKV GTI.

For the base I decided I wanted a rather raw look to it so I went at it with a hammer to remove the plastic moulded seat

Then came grinding off the foot rest

Quickly gave what was left a splash of flat black

Now given the wheel is slightly concaved it wasn't all that suitable to resting drinks on so I had a piece of glass cut to size and attached little rubber grips on the edge to sit on the lip and prevent the glass from sliding about

More updates to come tonight once it's all put together!

    Hope you like it!

I had a similar idea for my coffee table at my place after seeing the one topgear UK have with the engine block.

Kudos for keeping an Auto theme in the home!

What makes this even better is if I get bored of the Ronal and come across another wheel that takes my fancy I can just swap them over and have a new look!

Haha thanks mate. I really should get around to posting that final pic!
I've also got a few other tables in the works (V8 supercar Speedline wheel, some
    BBS tables etc)
