    Re Brake upgrade mk1

Thanks for the reply, most of info that you can get seems to come out of UK or USA, obviously the Golf scene is so much larger in the UK. It is good to be able to share info in Australia with fellow golfers. The G60 disc conversion i have read about, i suppose it is then relative to what wheels i then run.

They're easy to get as they are Passat brakes. Same as G60 at half the cost.

Most Passats are 256mm where the G60 has 280s. The hubs are the same and the 256 Calipers are only slightly different. If you have 256 calipers and 280 disks you need to make the pads thinner. 280s are 22mm thick to the 20mm on the 256.

It's a great conversion though, we fitted this stuff to evorobins Golf with big success.

The parts are exactly the same, but you have to pick the correct Passat.

Phil, can you elaborate please. All the Passats 88-96 I have seen except the G60 (not in RHD) and VR6 (all 5 stud) have 256mm brakes, some being solid disks the rest vented. The only 4 stud 280 I know of is the G60.

Isn`t the cupra sport 280mm 4 stud too? And you can get disks in Oz.

Also what Audi brakes are good? I am wrecking an Audi 100 this week 1991 Model. Any good bits on it?

I run 270mm Black Diamond disks with standard GTI calipers.
They came from TSR, who unfortunately have since disappeared),
    They are special though
as the 'top hat' has a much deeper offset to allow for the adaptor plates moving the calipers further inboard.
The benefit is that wheel clearance is easier - they will fit under 14 inch wheels.

You may be able to get them direct from Black Diamond, but the tricky bit would be the adaptor plates though - they came from TSR.

Otherwise , I'd investigate an oem 280mm setup along the lines of some other posts here (15 inch wheels required).
I believe that 305mm brakes are available from a Ibezer Cupra R, if you want more serious stopping power, but don't know the pitfalls to watch out for.

Of course there are a number of upgrade kits available OS, if you have the dough...

MkII rear disk conversion next, followed by a MkII servo/MC upgrade.

Depends what year?, 16v Cupra's had 280mm 4 stud discs, the 20vt powered Cupra's had 305mm 4 stud discs, with the 305mm you have to use the brembo calipers as the discs are
28mm thick, VW calipers wont fit over these.

    Who sells the 280mm discs?

They only brought Cupras here until 1999 and they all had 280mm 4 stud discs. A friend of mine bought some new discs for his for $150ish, I`ll ask him where.
