Also did a dash swap last weekend.

The old one was cracked and rattly. I got the new one from the very low k's one a friend and I got at the auctions. It's pretty awesome and feels like a new car again!!







Had a busted harness clip so scabbed one from the old dash. Was cool learning that they all are so easy to remove and replaceable. They thought of everything when they designed these things!!







The claw bit just slides out of the backing..

All fixed!







Nearly there, complete with original cassette goodness.

Haha. Yeah it effin rocks! It's not actually wired up its just sitting there lol. The guy gave it to me with the car when i bought it..

No idea if it works but i'll hook it up one day and see.


I got the cigarette lighter all wired up yesterday, finished the dash swap, and just put a nice new expansion bottle in the bay.

This was done a little while ago, but here's the fuel pump/filter mount-up i did. It's not a show stopper of a job, but it's a job!

Was better than this cable tied mess!!!



I basically used the existing mounting locations from the original (now deleted) accumulator setup, and just screwed up some aluminuim plate with rubber and foam 'bushings' to attempt to reduce the extreme noise that Bosch 044 pump makes









And yes, i did replace the gaffa tape and put on some proper wiring shrink sleeve!

How it was, as with any Aussie spec mk2 GTI the hole os blanked





This is the back of the lighter and you can see in the next pic, the terminal that was hanging there already doesnt match.





Soooo, i removed the plastic terminal to expose just the wires with their spade connectors, and soldered up some extra length to reach down.





And bango, a lighter that works!!



Its not rocket science a la peter jones, but its so nice having things like this all working properly again. It feels like a brand new car inside now
