    Some updates...

Another thanks to Malcolm for taking pics and updating me daily. He phones me to tell me they are gonna do this or have done that.

First up, he took my car to the closest dyno there which is an AWD dyno. Car was run twice and it was datalogged to check for any issues.

This is flywheel figures and on the 95 program with no additives or WMI. Dyno could be reading a tad high as the APR 2+ 95 file is rated around 355BHP, but I'm not concerned about that. Curves are good. Logs confirmed good and the same dyno will be re used to measure the gain. I requested a before of my pump file 95 program. Basically how my car runs as a daily as I want to run the Stage 3 in the same program as a daily.

With everything in check with no issues, Malcolm took the car back to his shop for the build.

Some pics Malcolm took of my R at his shop for his VAG Motorsport IG/FB page.

Malcolm and his team have also assembled the turbo, manifold and feed lines together.

    More updates to follow...

And some more updated pics again courtesy of Malcolm and his team at VAG Motorsport.

Pic comparison of the two turbos were done. On the left, the bigger GTX turbo with compact design manifold compared to the OEM K04 with manifold.

GTX Turbo kit fitted. I have not seen a more OEM fitting kit than this one.

Miscellaneous parts that come with the kit have been fitted as well. The piping all lines up and a great job has been done with the installation.

And the Carbonio TSI front intake section that will installed with my kit.

Slowly, but surely... Everything is coming together. Really getting amped to get this car back now!!

    Final stages of the build...

    Everything being put together...

Auxilliary in line low pressure fuel pump installed

Pump runs off this front mounted controller

Asked Malcolm.to replace the fuel filter at the same time

Connecting the downpipe to exhaust required modification. As I did not buy the APR midpipe that comes with a sport cat in. Normally looks like this.

I opted to have a clean catless mid pipe fabricated to join my APR catback exhaust to the downpipe.

Malcolm had a custom decat midpipe made up from TMSS.

Hooked up to my APR RSC catback exhaust to the downpipe.

Front section showing huge MAF section with APR carbonio intake and LPFP controller.

And fresh fluids were used. G12 coolant and the oil I love using best. Motul 300V

Car started yesterday and Malcolm and his team did thorough checks to check for any fuel, coolant or oil leaks. They actually let the car stand overnight and checked everything again this morning again to make sure.

Car now needs the tune and some datalogging.

And Malcolm flashed my R and loaded the 95 and 98 programs. Once I have funds for internals, I will look at the 104 file to replace the 98.

Car was datalogged and everything checked ok. Car is boosting very high, but the timing advance is very low on the 95 file. There is absolutely no timing pull at all. Malcolm returned to the same dyno that he used to dyno my Stage 2+ K04 power.

This shows the gains... A jump of 60kw and almost 60nm!

I was a bit worried the clutches will not hold. I requested the car get driven and tested before I collect. And Malcolm did a few torture tests with the car. also did 3 runs from the line and had no issues. Data from the vbox was very consistent. Maybe it's cause it is the 95 file. Here is the vbox data. 0-100km/h in 3.8s on the 95 file with no meth or additives.

Confident that the car was ok and healthy, I had a friend take me to collect my car. Upon arrival, my R was being cleaned. The new APR sideburn stickers on the fenders really are a nice touch!

Malcolm pulled the car on the lift and went through what they did on the car. How the kit fits and some small modifications him and his crew did to prevent touching or issues. I drove the car back home and it gave me zero issues. What a pleasurable 300km drive!

Malcolm phoned me later in the day to find out if everything is ok and if my car behaved. I confirmed everything was fine. He phoned me again the next day just to find out how the car is still behaving.

Now that she's home, I drove her a bit to enjoy what she now has to offer and see where all my money has gone.

First impressions. I don't really feel lag. Maybe there is 500kms like some have told me. But I don't feel it. And the delivery is so smooth till redline. At normal driving she is even quieter than my K04 was. I do now have a closed carbonio intake which has replaced my Evoms when I had K04. So turbo hissing and chatter isn't there. Well it is there, but very discreet. Driving normally, I would say this car is even better than K04. Responsive. So nippy and can really be used as a daily. Fuel consumption on the open road and normal driving has not really been hampered either which is a bonus.

Now to the fun part. Just press the loud pedal and the car transforms into a 2 stroke 350cc followed by a noise of an approaching tornado. You get thrown into the back seat so hard you forget to check the revs is hitting the Motorsport limiter at 7100rpm. Change to 2nd, and the fun starts again, but it's so damn quick you almost hitting the limiter again. Gave a friend a drive over the weekend. We first took a calm drive to let everything heat up. He said the car is quieter. And wasn't expecting anything. Until oil temps got up and I pressed the pedal. I never saw his eyes widen from shock and excitement at the same time. The car truly is like a sleeper.

With some more hard driving I noticed my clutches really holding up well. Did a few hard launches. Loaded the car a bit to see if the boost will make her slip. And I did it in 27+ degrees celsius external temps. So far so good. My HPA Stage 2 DSG software is really doing it's job well with my OEM clutchpacks. Will do some logs on her transmission temps as I go along and see how she holds up.

Normal Logs look great though. Timing advance of 15/16 degrees max, but she boosts hard. I see 2 bar boost. You hear it and you definitely feel it! At redline my car is holding 1.7 bar!! And she fuels. She fuels damn hard. Fuel pressure up to 155bar and sometimes I see 160! The LPFP kit and added rail valve in this kit from APR is really doing it's job. I also notice the black smoke now and again when booting my car really hard. Followed by a pop or bang from the exhaust now and again when coming to a stop. So much fun!! The only downside of it... My bootlid gets full of black soot very very quickly. Very noticeable on a Candy White colour too.

I made a video of her 0-200 with my GoPro.
    https://youtu.be/bGxYnzRCKAo

Cleaned out my new engine bay. My TTS cover doesn't fit anymore. Requires a bit of modification as the MAF section at the back is really huge!

And I gave her a quick valet. Actually drove my car more than giving her attention to the detailing part. But I will give her some good polish, sealant and wax soon!

Sounds like it's a perfect conversion. Good to hear there's no problems with the clutch too.

    Cheers

And some more vids of the car. Can't say how much fun this kit is...

And another video of my car running my friend's Astra GSi with a custom catback exhaust only. My fiancé drove the car and she really quite enjoyed it. Excuse my small chuckle in the background... Lol!

And it was time to clean and give the car another proper detailing session...

Gave her the good old snow foam treatment, followed by a good clay using Turtle Wax's clay kit and then finished up with a wash with Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II

Gave the car some paint correction with a machine polisher and Menzerna products. Then gave a good hand polish of Auto Finesse Tripple

Gave the car two coats Auto Finesse Tough Coat. Car really has it's ultimate glossy finish back!

    Updates...

Loaded the 98RON file and decided to do some testing.

Did a quick live datalog sessions with my Polar FIS+ before logging with VCDS. I like to make sure she is healthy before loading her in 4th from down low to see what the logs say.

Since I had my GoPro with, I made a little vid to show how healthy the car is. Virtually no pull across all 4 cylinders.

And then I torture tested the car. Thrashed her through the gears and did a few off the line runs. Picked up a bit of clutch slippage here and there. But nothing serious. I am still on OEM clutches and if proper cool down methods are performed I should be fine at a drag strip with this file.

Here are some video runs I made.

And the time has arrived... My R's first trip to dragstrip since being Stage 3.

I will be taking part in Dragwars held this Sunday at Tarlton International Raceway.

    Some prepping...

Some guys are already hooting for me to be in the 10s. Well, I know for a fact I won't get in there. I will be very happy with an 11s pass using my current setup. To do 10s, I need better clutches, I need the 104 file and I need lightweight 17s with slicks.

I will be running in full street trim with my 19" OZ wheels with the 98 file for now. If funds permit, I should be fully race prepped next year.

I also organized with Rey (Our local HPA Motorsports dealer) to get HPA's Stage 3 flash and upgrade from Stage 2 and see how my clutches perform after this with the 98 file. May be all I need for now till funds allow for upgraded clutches.

Is that $2000 for a software upgrade?

My car didn't cost that much!
