All up the stripping cost $1500 for the shell and all the panels as well as the repair piece.

Body only would have been $1200.

Comparable to blasting price wise, but blasting won't get the underbody tar stuff off.

I just didn't have the time to sand/scrape it back manually, I'd still be sanding by this time next year.

Well worth it, mate. What a top job. And you're doing everything properly, which i always like to see.

By the way, that's an insanely easy way to spray a roof.

The interior was pretty easy too because I could spray the interior roof with the car upside down.

Started bolting in the basics to make it roll.

Cleaned up a steering box and column.

Going to have to box out a recess for the pedal box to slide forward.







Once it's back with the roll cage all this stuff comes straight off again and it goes back up on the rotisserie for the rest of the panel work.

With some help from Jarred during the week and Geoff Hale today the car is now at Brown Davis awaiting a roll over protection structure.

Yeah, I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

A few comments on the design.

I wanted to keep it all as light as possible which is why the single diagonals in the roof, hoop and rear stays.

Weight is also the reason for the driver side getting full double intrusion bars and the passenger side is a basic single bar.

It's a single occupant setup for track work, you'd use a more comprehensive setup for rallying.

The boxes that the rear hoop is sitting on have a compression member inside them to prevent that box from being crushed in an accident.

It's an interesting science, all the pieces of the cage do different things, some parts are for safety, some are for rigidity and the main function of the rear horizontal bar is to hold the seatbelts up.
