Decent job on the top end damage were the pistons okay?
Geez Pete, you don't do things by half do you.
Hope you get it up and running without any more dramas.
Cheers
Paul

That's rotten luck mate, little setback but I'm sure it'll come back stronger.
Pistons are a little scuffed but OK. The marks aren't deep and will easily polish out.

Ouch! That hurts
Head is due back from repairs this week.
I was a bit dubious about running those cat cams again and got a pair of new Schrick cams from Eurospec.
The e85 conversion is nearly complete. The new tank is in and I've run in new anodised fuel line.
Did a stack of work on the fuel system and have converted every fitting to AN now. Not a single worm band on the car anywhere now.
New tank ready to go in.
I found some cheap wheels on eBay. These will be for a set of wet tyres after I've painted them silver.
Seller was in Sydney but the wheels shipped directly from Malaysia.
8 x 15 et0, same as my other wheels.

looking good, excellent workmanship as usual...
i think the wheels look quite mean in black, should leave them that colour...
Head is delayed another week.
In the mean time I spent yesterday cleaning the oils system and getting everything else ready.
Cleaning the oil system is a big job. Because of the aluminium swarf that was created I had to pull the sump off the motor, flush out all the lines, remove the oil cooler and flush that as well as cleaning a bunch of other stuff like the oil tank.
Because the cam locked up I was worried that the timing gear on the crank might have sheared it's pin. rather than risk it I installed a new one. This is the press fit unit from IE along with their upgraded crank bolt.
IE machine this from steel, the VW one is sintered metal.
IE sell an upgraded ARP crank bolt that offers greater clamping force to the gear. I already had the standard ARP bolt in there. The new one is a little longer so I had to machine and extra 2mm of clearance into the back of the oil pump drive adapter.
Reassembled.
Whilst in here I swapped out the thermostat cover. I've never been comfortable with the the 06A plastic neck and upgraded to this aluminium one from 034.
Here's just some of the oil lines that had to come out to be cleaned.
All looks good up under here.

Next race is November 3. I'm aiming to retune the car for e85 before then.
