    The motor was built by EuroSpec for me in the US. Eurospec: High Performance Parts for Audi and Volkswagen

    I had initially approached them for one of their FIA spec crank, rods, and piston sets to go into the ABF motor I've got here.

    It turns out those kits are designed for the shorter blocks and it became rapidily apparent that trying to machine the block in one continent and make parts to go into it in another one wasn't going to work.

    I was trying to negotiate with a head company in the UK for the head work at the time but they just wouldn't respond to ay form of communication.

    Steve (The owner) and Eric from EuroSpec were super helpful and offered me a head they had built as spare for one of their race cars.

    They also had the Jenveys and manifold in the spares cupboard and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

    After lengthy discussions and much head scratching we settled on the 06A block retro fitted with the ABF 16v head.

    There's many advantages to the 06A including the internal water pump, crank angle sensor and the readily available dry sump system.

    Going with a KR or ABF block would have required a lot of development work to make a dry sump system.

    I'm not sure what the final output will be, conservatively 250HP, optimistically 300Hp. It's really tough to say until I get it on the Dyno after running it in.

    O6A block with ABF 16v head.

    The cams are from CAT cams and run on solid lifters.

    A few more photos from today.











    I won best MK1/2 modified and best of show modified which was a unexpected surprise.

    I hadn't really considered actually winning a trophy.

    The motor isn't running yet, there's still a little wiring to do and an ECU to program. Then it should be just a matter of adding fluids and firing it up.

    A little more detail on the bottom end kit from the EuroSpec website.

    This new stroker kit is based on the FIA kit car specification. With a 90mm stroke by 84 mm bore and using a 150 mm connecting rod, this configuration delivers the best balance of bore and stroke on an 88 mm bore center, while still maintaining a connecting rod ratio of 1.67:1. Consisting of an all new super light Eurospec 4340 forged crankshaft with a 46 mm rod journals, Eurospec 4340 H beam connecting rods with Forged JE’s on a 19 mm pin. Including main bearings, rod bearings and a steel head gasket at the very affordable price of $2,250.00. Available for all two, four and five valve configurations and in compression ratios from 8.5:1 to 13.5:1.

    Car looked great yesterday Pete, Congrats on getting it together and getting it there! (Which i'm sure wouldn't have been a problem in the rokamei!)

    Looking forward to seeing/hearing it fired up, and blasting around the track!

    Nice one Peter, some great updates, looking much better with our decals on now hope your happy with them.

    The display pics were just a random sample of build, I tried to focus on stuff that you couldn't see on the (almost) completed car.

    There were a few shots of the original I'd been using for the placing of the decals, but nothing you haven't already got.

    I did have a few of the Kamei models on display too but didn't manage to take any photos of them.

    I'll write to Mike Wright and thank him again for sending the decals over, I've put his company stickers on the A pillar roll bar at the base of the windscreen. You can just make them out in some of the photos above.

    I'll send some photos to Uwe too. The VW club interviewed me for a DVD they're producing of the event I'll send one of those over too as soon as they're published.

    I've got to get around to updating the thread at ClubGTI too, I've been so busy prepping this I haven't had much time in front of the PC.

    I've still got to sort out the spoiler and trim the front arches a little before it's all done. I was approached by a chap at the show who's keen to help me out with that so with a bit of luck we're not far off finished.

    I've just got word my oil has arrived at Bursons, if I organise some fuel for this weekend I'll be real close to firing it up.

    Hmmmmm, must write to EuroSpec too and check a last couple of details with them before firing it.

    The way I explained the build for the DVD is that this build is how I think the car would have been built with the sorts of engine and motorsport technology available today.

    Wiring is complete now. All the fluids are in and any leaks sorted.

    It took 9 litres of oil and 7 litres of coolant.

    Just programming now.

    I've put away the crimpers and busted out the Oscilloscope and the laptop.

    Just about ready to make some noise.

    These DTA ECUs are pretty neat.

    There's diagnostics to help you setup the sensors.
    Here's the trace on the crank and cam angle sensors.



    I'm using the stock 60-2 wheel and VR sensor from the 06A block.

    Hence the blue lines indicating 2 missing teeth 58 teeth apart.

    Pink lines are the distributor signals.

    Still a bit of head scratching to figure out the offset between the crank angle sensor and the crank itself, but I think I can figure it out with a timing light.
