    1972 VW Superbug (1302) Restoration

    Hey guys,
I recently purchased a 1972 superbug to restore with my father, and brother.
We are looking to go back to stock, then with extra funds left over, do an engine and transmission swap.
What are some of the cheapest, easiest, most powerful and best engine swaps that we can do.
I was looking at a EJ20t, but I've heard you need to modify the engine hood.

    Thanks guys!

Years and years ago there used to be a Bug on the streets of Canberra that had a big supercharger bolted to the standard motor. It used to lift the front wheels off the road at the traffic light drags.

Motors only lasted a few weeks but back then they were cheap and plentifull.

    Cheers

ej20 will work, you need to shift the box forward around 2".

otherwise, bolt a turbo onto the stock motor, gets you from 40hp to 80hp quite easily.

i have a few kits floating around the garage .. 44 side draft to turbo. good fun! around $1800-$2500 a kit.

i run a 2332cc motor in one of my aircooled bugs - 165hp but comes at a price.. a motor like this is around $8k!
