    MkV R32 Dutton/Tarmac Challenge Mods

    Hi all,

first time poster, long time lurker...

I am the happy owner of an 08 MkV R32, clean and unmolested.

Which is planned to change of course...I am looking at entering the R in next years Dutton/Tarmac Challenge series - Street Class.

Obviously this limits the level of modification required, and happily the funds required to get the car up to competition spec.

The below is basically the penalty points incurred for modifying particular elements of the car, and what Im after from those in the know is what they would consider the best BFYB mods from the below list, keeping the car to within 3 points as below.

Initial thoughts - perhaps Haldex controller (one point penalty I presume), exhaust (one point penalty), air filter (not full induction so as to avoid the penalty), competition pads, semi slicks on lightened race rims, spring change (not coilovers to avoid a point penalty), ECU/tune and a decent wheel alignment. That would keep me in the 3 point range whilst upgrading/fettling with stuff that will still keep me under the point limit for street class.

Thoughts or input would be very much appreciated. I have modified Subaru's in the past, but never VW's, so any input as to general dollar costs for this stuff would also be appreciated. I figure its in a different league than the highly available, very competitive Subaru aftermarket.

    MODIFICATIONS v PENALTY CHARTS
    Brakes (Excluding Pads) 1
    Exhaust * 1
    Hydraulic Handbrake 1
    Induction (Excluding Air Filter) 1
    ECU 1
    Suspension (Excluding Springs) 1
    AWD System 2
    Engine Modification 2
    Performance Car List 2
    Weight Saving 3
    R Rated Tyres 4
Rally plate or Unregistered Vehicle Permit 4
Power to Weight > 180Kw per tonne 4
*Exhaust modifications exclude exhaust system from catalytic converter back.

    wmd,

Give us a call in the office when you get time.

We support a couple of R32's that are currently doing the series (MKV) & we have helped out a few MKIV's in our time as well. - We have also run our own VW's and Audi's in 9 Duttons.

    Switchable Haldex a must

ECU upgrade with Left Foot Braking enable (Track Pack - a must for the motorkhana's)

Heavier clutch & flywheel setup (if yours is a manual transmission).

Then suspension with good single click damping adjustment (you change it on the fly, before each specific event)

In the Dutton Rally? The info is available HERE

Your looking at around $2700 for the 4 day NSW Dutton event this September plus you will need a CAMS Level 2 Speed license which they can provide at the event , and in the Dutton you can use your street car with basic safety equipment like 2 x 2KG fire extinguishers and a first aid kit.

In anything more serious like Mt Buller Sprint or SunCoast Rally, Rally Tas etc etc etc your car will need to comply to the CAMS Tarmac Rally Regulations as well you will need a CAMS National Rally License at a minimum.

This includes items for safety equipment (cage, fire extinguishers, kill switch race suits etc) as well as meeting the technical requirments for the modern class which are available here on the CAMS website.

If you want a list of what I have done to my MKIV R32 to compete in Mt Buller and the like you can find it here with images from Mt Buller and various Dutton Rallies and other events available here

    Cheers Al
