If it means more race ticket sales/sponsor/tv money, i'm sure Bernie will find a way to make it happen. If thats the case, its a shame they have to resort to this crap to boost the sport.

Michael Schumacher's comeback to Formula One became more likely after it was revealed he had told Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo there was a "strong possibility" he would be racing for the Mercedes team in 2010.

While Schumacher himself has remained silent while speculation has increased, di Montezemolo told journalists that the deal was on the verge of being agreed. "I hadn't spoken to him since Abu Dhabi but I spoke to him [on Wednesday]," he said. "He phoned me and he told me that there is a very, very, very strong possibility [of signing for Mercedes].

"It's not 100% decided, but that is what he said."

Betraying signs of bitterness at the possibility of Schumacher severing his long-standing links with Ferrari for the first time, di Montezemolo indicated he did not understand the logic of his return. "There must be another one who looks like him. He is German, has the same name, same age, 40 or 41, and has decided to try again. I like this person but he is another Michael. The one I know confirmed to me he would finish his career at Ferrari.

"The real Schumacher, the one I know, will remain forever part of the Ferrari family. I said it in Monza and I repeated it in Abu Dhabi, but, it seems he has a twin brother, identical in every way, who seems to have it in his head to go and race in Formula One with Mercedes.

"I don't know what the possibilities are at Mercedes for this other guy called Michael. For me it is difficult. If I talk with him as a friend and see this determination, I am pleased. But as Ferrari chairman I'm sad. He has given a lot to Ferrari and received a lot from us. This is why we have to accept that there is another Michael, not the real Michael that we knew.

"It seems we have nothing to offer him."

I agree. It used to be easy to read the news in the old format.

Yeah i hate the new layout also, will be interesting to see if Michael does comeback. Anything less than a championship will be a let down for him, so he will be up for a challenge.

With Button going to Mclaren, as much as I don't like Lewis, button is going to be destroyed by him in an identical car i reckon.

Button is going to be another Lewis victim like Alonso. As for Shumi, I like to see him again in the grid.

Here what ESPn say about Shumi.

It is looking increasingly likely that Michael Schumacher will make a return to Formula One after his manager declared him fit to race.

Reports from Germany indicate a deal has already been signed for Schumacher to return to F1 with Mercedes in 2010. However, questions still remain whether his neck will be up to the stresses of driving in F1. He called off a comeback with Ferrari last season when an analysis of a neck injury, sustained during a motorbike testing accident, revealed it would be too risky for him to race.

However, his return now appears to be set after his manager Willi Weber told the Cologne newspaper Express that his driver is "super-fit" and that the 40-year-old's doctor is pleased with his progress.

1992 champion Nigel Mansell has also joined the list of F1 personalities supporting a Schumacher comeback. Mansell, who won his title at 39-years-old and also made a return at the age of 41, believes the German will have no problems if he chooses to return to the sport.

"It wouldn't surprise me if Michael challenged for another world title," Mansell told the Mail on Sunday. "It doesn't matter what age you are as long as you are professional, committed and focussed. People have written Michael off as over the hill, I look at it differently. Michael has tremendous experience and talent, and Mercedes will provide him with a fantastic package. He is extremely fit and we can take his commitment and professionalism for granted."

Mercedes has said it will not announce its second driver, who will partner Nico Rosberg, until the New Year.
