I was wondering how you were going to manage the ECU, standalone is probably the best option there.
why not turbo the ABF?
Hi guys, I didnt realise that I had broken the rules as to how to post and stuff, so I am starting this thread just to let you guys in on my project. I (my mechanic) is putting the 1.8T 20V from my wrecked Polo GTi into my new Cupra. I will let you in on whats what and how things go along the way, but from what my Mech says, its not going to be much of a drama whatsoever. keeping the box from the seat as its stronger apparantly. Using Autronic computer, Audi S3 front mount, and a few other spare bits that he has lying around. So there it is, I will update as we get things moving.

Defeating the Standard ECU immobiliser would have to be the easiest option by a country mile. It comes with 50hp for free. ;0)
What did you do with your old engine?
OK, saw your other post. I'll send you an email.

Hey guys and girls,
The transplant is still going ahead. My mechanic has been doing little bits and pieces when he has not much going on. At present, the car has the 20V in it, and now all he has to do is get the exhaust done, and try to find room at the front for an Intercooler... I never really noticed how small a space it is from the radiator to the bumper :/ Any suggestions?

Hey guys, on a side note....
I have noticed people talking about Cupra's and GTi's, and I was just wondering, if mine is a 1999 model Ibiza GTi with a 16v 2.0L in it and 16 valves written down the side, does that mean its a cupra? compared to the earlier GTi's which were 8v, but no such writing down the side? I know I certainly have never seen a Ibiza with Cupra written down the side here in Aust like they do in Europe.. So i was just wondering, what makes a Cupra a Cupra??? I am guessing it's the ABF motor, but i hope someone could clarify this for me.
Cheers,
Kris
my understanding is the all ABF powered cars are Cupras. Its seems that OZ spec level is lower than that of many of the euro cars. The seats and trim being one thing
