    Toledo Clutch

Hi my 2l 96 Toledo just had a clutch issue. I went to put it into 1st gear and it made a small noise then the clutch got stuck on the floor. You can pull it back put but if you push on it it just pops back on the floor and doesn't go into gear. Any ideas what this is. Are they cable or hydrolic. By the way I had the clutch replaced about a year ago. Thanks for any help guys. She seems like shes on her last legs lots of little issues this year.

I know nothing about Toledos but it sounds like a pedal box failure if it's similar to theone in the Ibiza/Cordy. What you've described is exactly what I experienced with my Cupra.

Check this site... I fixed my clutch using this site. Exact same issue. Welcome to BrokeVW.com

Not sure if you have the same issue, but mine was a broken Finger - I think it was $70 from VW... All of 30-45min to fix. No need to remove any heavy parts. The worst thing is I only discovered it was the finger after dropping the entire box, replacing the entire clutch plate and pressure plate, clutch cable and almost replaced the peddel box too. The brokevw site saved me another 10hour job.

I agree it sounds like the finger in the back of the box. Behind the passenger rd wheel, remove green cap on end of gearbox. See if finger is broken. If it has auto adjusting clutch cable compress and hold it before you dismantle it.

Did you fit a new thrust plate with the clutch?

yup, finger in the box or the thrust plate....or a broken cable!

THe pedal will stay on the floor unless you lift it up as there is a "helper" spring in the pedal box that goes over centre to reduce the force required to depress the clutch.

First, check that when the clutch pedal is pushed down that the big lever on the front of the gearbox is moveing up (you'll need someone to watch either the lever or push the clutch) If it doesnt move up when the clutch is depressed, then the problem is likely with the cable.

If the lever is moving up, then most likely the problem is the release lever finger as pictured above.
