    cupra & vagcom connectivity

    Hi all

    I can connect to the airbag and abs modules but have not been able to connect with my original ECU or a replacement ECU. I haven't got a k-line wiring diagram but I have been able to trace the k-line to the immo but not to the ECU (or radio for that matter). Pin out 43 from the T68 ECU connector is listed as the k-line data connector (for volkswagens...) but from what ive been able to test on my car it isnt...wire that comes from pin out 43 is a green wire that goes to the immo but is not the grey/white k-line wire from the diagnostic port. Also I cant see any grey/white wires at the loom going into the ECU and a continuity test from the port to the ECU connector yielded nada..

    mk3's abf's seem to be k-line enabled...seat abf's not? anyone with a cupra/seat have any experience connecting to anything more than abs and airbag modules? cheers

    I've had success talking to the ecu on a toledo (just an 8V 2E) but it worked fine - thats with the old style 4 pin connector.

    I know there is a writeup in the ross tech wiki regarding this kind of thing.... have you tried there yet?

    Regardless, if you are talking to other parts of the car I would think that the plug is wired correctly.

    Perhaps do a google search for the part number of your ecu - you might be able to get some pinout specs for it.

    ok good to hear, yes Ive poured over the rosstech site, the plug is definitely wired correctly and as is shown on the aftermarket radio problem on their site. I have tried to get my ECU specific pin out without success but I did manage to find a generic motronic one which has served well but like I said pin 43 is listed as k-line whereas this wire is not k-line for my cupra

    From what I can understand the k-line is the link from all the modules in which data is transferred, what makes it possible to 'talk' with them....I have verified that there is no k-line feeding to the ECU: so how is communication going to be possible? I would invest in a proper $350 rosstech cable if i was guaranteed it would work but not if the problem lies elsewhere. My haynes manual has no k-line wiring diagram (didnt really expect it to lol) thinking of maybe getting a bentley manual and hope for the best

    ahh well - all I can say to that is that I havent used one of the cheap cables.

    Can you find someone to borrow a proper ross tech cable to try? Its still possible that the wire is there but its not coloured the way you would expect I suppose.

    I'm not sure if this is of any help but I recently used my $10 cable and my laptop with vagcom to get an engine speed sensor error reading from my cupra. Also works with my cordoba.

    I used vagcom and VCDS this moring on my cupra to clear codes.

    well yes being unemployed as of a week ago is holding me back from spending cash I don't have on an expensive one Ive put a shout out see if anyone is in my area with a proper dongle. My multimeter says that it isnt possible, I tested all the wires feeding into the ECU for continuity from the diagnostic port k-line so either there's something I have missed or I cringe to think its just someone Leaving something unconnected while installing an aftermarket radio..

    It is probably an earth off somewhere.
    I'd suspect from the immobiliser box.
    Follow the cable from the reader coil around the key barell. From that box will be a brown wire and a loop connection that goes to earth. Bet your one doesn't.

    The loop is good, both brown wires are grounding and have pulled the kick panel off to un cover the earth below the fuse box. Any other earths I should check?

    Im stumped on this..it stopped starting randomly over 2 months ago, was running fine before that. A mechanic couldn't connect to ECU so couldn't diagnose the problem so got the car towed home and sent the ECU away to be checked> they also told me that they couldn't connect to it so best bet was a fried ECU so took a punt on a second hand ECU from the UK. Trying to connect so I can mate the new ECU to immo...the adventure continues..
