I too, fitted that Ryco Z553 and would be interested in any response to the question.
I've recently purchased a 1995 Cordoba GLX 1.8 litre without any handbooks or manuals. I'll shortly be doing an oil change and research on the internet has shown that the Ryco Z553 is the correct Ryco brand filter for my car.
However some posts by the owners of the same in engine in the VW Golf suggest the Ryco filter is perhaps not up to the job as the Golf apparently operates on a higher oil pressure.
What do you, Codorba owners and experts recommend? Are there alternative filters easily available? (I'm in Richmond NSW).

Genuine VW filter is $15 from the dealer. Ask for one for a G3 2L or 1.8 and you will be fine. I have seen the Ryco ones pop the oil seal, so I wont use em.

would this be the same for the GTI ibiza 2.0L?
Yup Golf 3 and yes hamza, that is the same filter on the Ibiza GTI.
Also fits Golf 1 and 2, some T4 vans and Early Audis.
I use OEM German ones which I can mailorder to you for $10 each.

I had a Ryco leak on Bron's cordoba just enough to leave a few drops on the ground. I was talking to a friend who runs a service workshop, he had a whole shelf full of Ryco filters which had leaked mostly through the seam around the tyop of the filter he thought. It would seem that all Ryco filters are now made overseas.
On the few oil and filter changes I've done on my wife's '95 Cordoba, I've used Baldwin B178 filters. No particular reason other than they are what my oil supplier stocks. Certainly no problem with leaking etc.
Genuine VW part number is 06A 115 561B for those of you playing at home.
As Matt said, they're about $15-$20 from your friendly VW dealer, but can be had cheaper bought in bulk from overseas.
