Welcome to the forum, Clare. I'm sure help will be at hand when Golf Loon et al get online today.

Hi,
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Over christmas my 95 SEAT Ibiza let me down, after 2 1/2 reliable years (except for that unfortuante timing belt incident).
I was leaving a xmas do on sunday, driving in 3rd on a dirt road on the Mornington Peninsula when the engine stopped. This happened once before but I got it going again that time. (Oddly it always seemed to have trouble starting in damp or wet weather, I'd have to flood the engine to get it revving) The RACV guy said it was an electronic issue, "no spark".
As I live in Melbourne he suggested I get it towed to somewhere on the Peninsula and spend the money on parts. Have since spoken to his garage who won't touch it because of the make (can't get the parts), I'm at a bit of a loss. Spoke to an auto-electrician down there who was very quick to rush me off the phone, although sounded like he knew what the problem was (something about the coil and engine module needing replacing?). I feel a bit dodgy about leaving my poor Ibiza there, as he didn't really give me any assurance that he even knew what a Seat was.
Any suggestions?? Last time I had a service was in feb (I think) at Ultratune, I talked about the petrol smell that lingers when I idle but they brushed it off as an oil leak. Hmmm.
Any info or insights are welcome,
Clare

Sounds like classic coil symptoms.
You have PM
SEATs are great cars, find a mechanic who believes this too.
I dont have any reccomendations in Melbourne, but I can mail parts no problem.

Thanks for everyone's advice. Loon is posting me the coil part and I will endeavour to fit it myself. I saw the racv guy take off the old one so have a vague idea what to do....!
Will post progress update on monday..

So after much anticipation, I'm heading down the coast to rescue my car tomorrow. Have received the part from Loon (thank you!), and will attempt to put it on myself... But just wondering if anyone can give me a general idea of where it goes? I know this sounds ridiculous, but I feel confident that I can do it myself provided I have a vague idea of where to start..!
Cheers,
Clare
yeah im sure you will manage that one 1 10mm spanner and a ratchet and socket with 10mm 1/4 drive or even just 2 10mm spanners. You will find the part that Loon has gave you located if i rmember right on the fire wall if its like the Polos. 2 long bolts and you are sorted, up and running again no worries
