It should be a CHE code. Virtually any gearbox out of a Mk3 Golf or Vento (except VR6) will work. I have one in my garage.

Almost anything is possible but why you would want to put an 020 rod change gearbox into a car that has an O2A cable change gearbox is a little beyond me.

I thought the cupra like gears like stick in bucket whereas the gti 95' feels better.

So true, the gears in Cupra are not the best, used to own a 95 Seat Gti and you are right the gears feel much better.

Can you be more specific. What do you mean by breaking down? I know more about Cupras than the 8V GTi version however as far as I know the gear linkages should all be the same as a Mk 3 Golf and kits are easily available. Linkage kits are easy to find. Look in the Mk 3 Section I am sure that I remember reading threads about what to replace. I have replaced most of the linkages on our Vento and also when we had Mk 2 GTi's and it is not difficult.

Could you find out and advise us what the part number is of the bit that was replaced? Mine might need replacing as well.
