I guess I just joined the club.....Pedal Box Failure

    Hi all,

I went to select first to put the car in the garage last night & heard a pop followed by the clutch pedal going to the floor. Had a quick look today & the clutch cable support is well & truly free of the pedal box. I was hoping to do the bolt mod ( had a good look at the FAQ on cupra.net) but my failure looks much worse than the ones shown.

Anyway, could have been much worse, having it fail in your own driveway is probably the best I could have asked for!

    So, options?????

    I'm thinking,
    1. pull it out & rebuild it.
    2. get 2nd hand one & strengthen it/ repair mine as a spare.
    3. try & get a new one from somewhere.

Loon can you help with option 2 or 3?

This is with the clutch cable still connected so the bracket is under tension

Now with the cable disconnected, I don't know where the missing section is????

Hey Pete, how are you going with that strip down. Those rear springs would be pretty handy. If you need to keep it rolling I can send you the VR6 ones from mine?

    Cheers

hey phil get it welded its the cheapest option. The chances of finding a new one and getting one second hand are slim they always break up the top so weld abit of extra material around there. hope your all well il see you at the nationals regards will

All Ibiza / Cordoba pedal boxes are the same.
Toledo is different, it is the same as a Mk2.

So having just gotten back from some work in NZ I had a chance to start pulling it apart today. I'm at the point of pulling the uni joint off the bottom of the steering column but it all seems very tight. How hard is it to pop off???

The last couple of weeks have been very busy with work & going to the GP, I got a chance to work on it yesterday arvo & got it out without disconnecting the steering column, so welding today! Does anyone know if the white plastic clip in the back of the brake pedal is a standard VW part or do I need to get one from the UK?

I reckon that clip's the same between VW and Seat.

It's a bugger to get out, the official tool to release the clips is actually a set of MK1 valve shim pliers.
