    Engine Oils

Just wondering what is a good quality oil for the Beezer GTI (8 valve) I've heard magnatec is good. What about the 0-40 Castrol edge? Or even Nulon?

Whats the go people. Its gettin on in years (177k) so I want something to prevent wear.

    Thanks

HPR30 is 20w60. Probably good in an old 351 Ford but maybe a bit thick in a modern(ish) 4 cylinder.

Is the SEAT an AGG engine?

I've got a Mk3.5 Golf Cabrio with an AGG 2.0L 8 Valve and have been using Castrol Edge 5w30. The car does about 400km a week at motorway speeds (100-120kmh) sitting on 3000-3400rpm and hasn't required any top-ups between the regular 15,000km changes. Engine feels nippy & revs well. Fuel economy averages 8L/100km. This is in Sydney, so not overly hot or cold. I usually do my oil changes mid-year.

I usually buy the Castrol Edge 5w30 when it's on special at Supercheap for $29.95 - pretty cheap for a synthetic oil.

    edit: mines done 118,000km

Personally I would use a good mineral oil, castrol magnatec or GTX2. I reckon synthetics are a bit thin for these engines and they make less ratles and use less oil with the mineral.

The SEAT GTI uses the 2E Engine, the predecessor to the AGG.
