My wife's '95 Cordoba has for a few months been clicking when turning left at slow speed.
I assume that is a cv (outboard?) but as of late it has developed a "hum" which is getting louder.
Do cv's hum or is it more indicative of a wheel bearing (given that the cv is clicking)?

click is probably cv. Hum is probably wheel bearing, sit in the back whilst someone else drives and see if you can hear which wheel.
Rear kits are cheap and easy. Fronts you will need a press.

if it's the pass. side front bearing u won't need a press as i have a good stubaxle to trade with the bearing intact.
also sell u the pas side shaft i got from loon 2/3 yrs ago 0 kms since then, nice c-v and rubbers...give u a hand over Easter if u need.

Well that was fun.
Short answer is that both rear wheel bearings are shot.
Passengers side sounds dry and is definitely the "hum".
Drivers side has fair "push-pull" movement.
What is of more immediate concern is the front passenger side strut top mount.
I checked the fronts pass side first as I was convinced that was where the prob lie. I jacked the side of the car up, removed wheel and as I was fiddling around, discovered that the strut was flopping around at the top mount.
Short story, I tried to tighten it, then removed the strut, removed coil spring, ascertained that everything was there (I think), put it back together and reinstalled it.
The problem is that the upper rubber mount just sits freely in the strut tower.
In the pic you can see the gap between the bottom of the cap and the top of the tower. Surely the strut should be a tight fit into the tower? The way it is, when the car is jacked up the strut drops by that amount between the cap and strut tower. The rubber mount itself looks fine, although it may well be compressed - I've got nothing to compare it with.
Comments anyone?
Also, does someone have the numbers of rear wheel bearings for '95 Cordoba?

same with autobarn or repco
or bearing place
if i remember correctly the tower is loose if it is jacked up under the suspension
double check the top nut any way and see what it is like when all wheels on ground.

Rear Wheel bearings are the same as Golf 1, 2, 3 and all SEATs and more stuff beside.
I carry them in stock and the strut tops if you cant find a local answer. None of the bits are very expensive.

I dont see anything wrong with that strut mate. It should sit like that.
If you are doing the bearings yourself remember they are tapered and you need to adjust them properly, adjusting as you spin. You should be able to move the thrust washer behind the nut with a little bit of resistance.
