Looks like an honest car from the pictures. I love the ABF engine, in my eyes, the best that VW have produced that doesn't have a turbo.

I picked this up on the weekend.
It needs a bit of a tidy up. Plus a few bits and pieces such as the fan temperature control module 6KO 919 506 A.
It has a pod filter and a LOUD exhaust which being an old fart I will have to quieten down a bit.

Yes it is remarkably straight. The paint isn't 100% but for $1,200 you can't be too fussy.
I am with you Gav. I love the engine. Torquey down low and sings all the way to the 6,950 cut out. I bought it as a second car just to flog mainly on weekends. I have withdrawal symptoms when ever I drive my old one which my son now drives so when this came up I couldn't resist. I have a spare set of the original Cupra wheels so they will go on once the wife lets me have some more cash.

what a bargain for 1200 bucks!
They certainly are addictive! I had an Ibiza GTI (8 valve engine) for a couple of years then got the Cupra in 1999 - which I still have.
I tried the latest Ibiza Cupra last year in UK - difficult to tell what the performance was like on a short drive but it was a good looking car. If only Inchcape had put a bit more effort into marketing SEAT we might still be able to get them here.
$1200 sounds a pretty low price - what mileage has it done?
I agree. I just really like the way that they drive.
According to the speedo it has done 211,000k's however the engine is strong (actually it goes really well) and doesn't blow smoke so I don't know if it has been replaced or is the original. It has a few problems to be fixed. I rang Loon to see if he has a few parts that I need and I am waiting for a reply. I have found a couple of the bits that I need on Ebay in the UK but the sellers don't post to Australia. Bummer.
Anyone got a contact in the UK that I can send the bits to and then get them to forward them on?

Wow $1200. I missed out big time. if you ever want to offload it to a guy who needs a car to get around. Msg me
I am currently concentrating on getting this one tidied up and getting everthing working properly. I have spent over $400.00 on it so far. It goes really well but I want to get the air conditioning working again.
However I do have another one in the pipeline and if that comes off (It will be January probably) then this one will be back on the market in much better condition than it is now.
