A quick update. I have fixed the drivers door lock so that the car can now be locked. The central locking all works fine now. I went over the whole car with Turtle wax scratch and swirl remover and the paint came up really nice and shiny. It had lots of scratches at the door handles from the previous owners wife's the long finger nails. They all came off too.

I put 4 brand new tyres on it. I went Kumho KU31's as i got them for $95.00 each from KMart. I decided to stay with the 15 inch wheels rather than put on the set of original 16 inch wheels that I have in the shed as these tyres were around $50.00 cheaper each. At the moment the plan is just to get the car reliable and in good condition but on a budget as this is going to be our spare car for use when one of our cars is in the shop and also as a fun car on the weekends.

I found that the car has the wrong spark plugs in it so I have ordered some NGK Iridium plugs for it. I also noticed that the auxiliary drive belt is a bit perished so I have ordered a new one. The new black leather with red stitching gear stick and hand brake gaiters arrived so I fitted them yesterday. They look good and after a thorough vacuum it looks quite schmick inside now.

Next step is oil change and filter and I have also put a new K&N panel filter into the airbox. I replaced the coil and HT lead and also put a new distributor cap on it. along with 12 months rego it is now getting close to being right. Fixing the aircon is next on the list however I have discovered that it car has the wrong thermo fans on it so that could be a bit of a mission to find the right ones.

So mainly cosmetic stuff so far but it is coming along nicely. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Only because SEAT haven't been sold in Australia for a while, but as its VAG its all interchangable to a certain extent.
See Golf Loon at Camden GTI. He should be able sort parts out

Short self tapping screw? Where did you place it? I see the covers slide in to the skirt. Did you have to take it off to access?
