    1995 vs 1999 cordoba

Hi Guys, haven't been here for while. My daughter Bron's 1995 Cordoba is going well but has a few cosmetic problems. The main one is that the paint is peeling and chalky which seems like a common problem.

She has her eye on a 1999 Cordoba which looks to be in very nice condition. Please can anyone spare few moments to comment on the differences between the two years, such as:
---is the paint on the later models longer lasting?
---how does the 1.6 compare with the 1.8?
    ---anything else?
    Thanks Guys

    Hi there,

I have a 97 Ibiza and the paint is crap. I think all Seat's have poor paint.

If your 1.6 Cordoba a SXE model? If so they have a 1.6ltr cross flow which is a really good motor.

The 1.8ltr is from the Mk3 being a counter flow, single cam single point injection. (Pretty slow)

Id keep the 1.6 if it is a SXE.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks Mate,
Bron already has a 1.8 1995. She has spotted a 1999 whose paint looks good but it's in Tas. There is not a lot of point to the exercise if the paint will fall off that too in a few years. I think there are a lot less of these 1.6 models around for spares too.

its only the clear coat that comes off because the cars are that solid and older. Most c/c comes off on lots of cars incl mercs as it is exposed to all weather.
The roof first....clean it and respray with some enamel ?? recent one I brt has only roofpaint prbs 1995

Engines are strong and driven the right way can be fast in the 1.8.... and will last 300,000 with little maintenance. We are on our 4th one.
cheap and solid and extras galore.

It seems to be a lot of the SEAT's clearcoat fails earlier than it should, and some colours are definitely worse than other. Red and green and blue are all bad. Look for a white one, they have a gloss enamel (i think) but they always look good.

A lot of it is care - there are seats around with good paint, that have actually been looked after. its no so much an inevitability as a result of lack of care.... but I do think they are more likely to go peely than the equivalent year golf, for instance.

That 1.6 is a goodun too, as waterboy said.
