Question 1995 Ibiza 1.2 Clutch Replacement

    Hi guys,

I've had my little Ibiza for about 5 years now and it's been a dream. I'm not very mechanically versed so apologies if this sounds stupid or just plain wrong.

I've been told that my clutch is starting to slip. What happens is when I get to 3rd gear and up, if I give it some oomph then the revs just jump but the car doesn't actually go. If I ease in really nice and slow it seems to be ok, however it is getting worse. Both my dad and a friend have said the clutch is slipping and needs replacing, so I believe that's the way I'm going to have to go.

Unfortunately I have exactly 0 experience doing something this big and dad won't be around to help out. This means I'm looking at taking it in to a mechanic. I'm just wondering if anyone has a rough idea of a) how much it will cost and b) whether it will be worth the time to order the parts myself. I live in Kallangur, Brisbane if this helps.

My parents have been on this forum before and they've told me of a mysterious Scottish fellow who lives on Brisbane south side (apologies for not knowing the name), who has some experience with VW/Seat.

Any help anyone can provide will be of great use, thanks.

Yessss his name is Jimmy Mac.

I going to guess and say $500 in parts and $500 labor. Very very rough guess.

Parts won't cost $500. All you need is a new clutch so shop around. If you have trouble finding one give Brian at GTI Imports a call. He has everything and always at a good price.

Labour is always expensive so find someone who knows all about Golfs because they will know all the tricks to doing the job quickly and will have any special tools that might be needed.

I recommend you contact Jimmy Mac at Alba European, he might have a clutch too.

jmac, IS ON HERE A BIT do asearch of his posts

anyone who does Golfs ...Seats are the same design all German VW mechanicals
from a good all-round mechanic parts and labour should be less than $600 if you use all new parts
what kms are on it ? have you tried adjusting it more??
my first clutch lasted 195,000 kms
I have a used one here from a Cordoba 1.8L, car did 156,ooo not off the engine but the design is that the job can be done in 2-3 hrs as the gearbox slides across from the engine.
Don't go to a BIG dealership...go to a renowned mechanic in your area so you can get after changeover service.
Maybe ask in the help section for someone more local.

I have found Lubemobile very competitive in the past. the will send someone who knows the car brand and fetch the parts and are very reliable...check it online
