VWR Intake / Engine cover question

I will shortly become an owner of a lovely roc R, and was thinking about putting on the VWR CAI and some tune to go with it.

The other option I was looking at was the Carbonio from APR, but essentially doesn't actually seem to change much, and VWR might be the better option. Was mainly looking for a bit more induction noise, and i'm not sure how the APR goes in that respect, but I assume the VWR will do what I'm after. I realise the actual power increases would be fairly low with either.

The advantage to the APR is keeping the engine cover, however I see some people using an audi tts cover as a substitute or cutting the original.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with either option.

In the case of modding the original, how easy it is to cut, noticeable if you went back to the original airbox, possible price for replacement?
In the case of the audi cover is just a straight swap... are the audi rings removable from the audi cover, price etc.

    Thanks

The Carbonio is useless, I had one and it does absolutely nothing. You'll get some nice gains from the VWR Intake and a far better sound. Then grab an Audi TT-S Engine cover from BKS Tuning (cheapest I've come across).

IMO, the best idea would be to grab the VWR Intake and the TT-S Engine cover. That way if you ever wish to go back you don't have to source a second-hand OEM cover. Just de-badge the TT-S one and put some VW stuff on it if you wish to keep the VW look.

You can also buy a fully converted TT-S cover designed to look like a VW one from Tarmac Engineering if you're willing to spend the coin: Custom FSI Engine Cover

VWR sounds like the way to go then. Thanks for the link to the Tarmac, fairly pricey, but BKS tuning one seems like the go, i handle the rings. If its this one is that all that is required?

Yep, that's exactly it. No trimming needed, just use your existing rubber bungs that hold your engine cover in place.

You'll be more than happy with the results.

I'm running the VWR CAI in my Scirocco and don't have an engine cover.

Is there any particular reason you want an engine cover, aside from making it pretty?
MY12 Scirocco R - slightly not stock

635 is cheap, what supplier was that?

The engine cover yea, just for the sake of being pretty really. Obviously not required, but I think the engine without the cover looks fairly ugly. Not that i'm opening the bonnet every few minutes, but I think i'd prefer it just for my own sake.

Clean your Engine Bay and add some goodies like the R8 Oil Cap and maybe some Carbon bits. Then you might like it.

my engine bay is spotless but still think it looks cleaner and neater with the cover

    no cover with intake

    cover with intake

each to their own though, and i suppose unless you are showing off the engine bay you wouldnt care too much anyways.
