Yeah, I suppose most parts come from Sydney, Singapore or Germany anyway.

Knowing the price of stuff in AUS I could imagine it being a money grab and costing more than the GTI anyway, so may not be worth it.

Yeah the parts would come from either Singapore or Germany, i recently had a windscreen sent over from Germany, took under 4 weeks.

But like you say G-rig, you'd have to be pretty keen on Sciroccos to want one over here, i could imagine the price of a new TSI being close to the price of an R20 Golf by the time it arrived.

I'm still waiting to hear back about the prices. They're based on UK prices, so who knows how it'll all end up.

That's true but i think the Scirocco R and Golf R should be priced the same as they almost look the same in the video i saw, mostly identical from the front but AWD may be better than the 'rocco's style.

You mean if VW if brought them in themselves they'd be priced around the same don't you?

I was trying to say that if they were imported by a company under SEVS, then the Rocco TSI would be almost as expensive as an Aus delivered Golf R20.

It does seem a shame that the Rocco R isn't gonna be AWD though.

All this crap is being hyped up a lot, kind of over it. The scirocco as stock has a wide butt but would look good with some staggered wheels on it.

If it's going to be too expensive i'd rather a second hand 135i any day (or new/demo for that matter).

I'd rather have your R32 tbh!! With the money saved i'd be putting a decent Turbo set up on it, it would kick ass!!

Yeah, i'd like to do something like that in the future and wouldn't be any more expensive than changing cars, plus I'd have to do all the other mods again.

The Golf R is getting quite over hyped as well, just because it's taking forever to be released here but IMO will be the same as the GTI but with AWD. Not really the same icon that the MK5 R32 and GTI are.

Car Magazine in the UK reviewed the Scirroco R in Dec 09 and said the following "You might already have your heart set on the Golf R, which comes out later, but consider this: the Golf is four-wheel-drive - therefore heavier and, by the development team's own admission, less agile - and barely more powerful yet a little pricier too. So advantage Scirroco I'd say".

In their race track comparison, the Ford Focus RS did 1.40.9, Scirroco R 141.25, Mazda 3 MPS 142.0 and new VW Golf GTI 142.85.

I was told a couple of weeks back by a Dealer that the decision was made and the Scirrocco will NOT be imported into Aus due to a clash with the 3 door GTi.
Bollocks VW Aus, if this is the case, you have got it completely wrong !
In much the same way that an R36 buyer is not a CC buyer, the Scirrocco is a vastly sexier car than the stubbier, more "upright" looking 3 door Gti (good in it's own right but not as sleek as the Scirrocco styling).
I saw one in Amalfi, Italy back in October 2008. White with 19" rims and a huge sticker up each side with "Der Neu Volkswagen Scirrocco", black (and I mean black) tinted windows and the photos do no justice to just how awesome this car looks in the flesh. Comments about it's "big butt" are simply wrong, the proportions and styling are brilliant, it's low, wide and agressive, damn shame that the beancounters here can't see it's a different buyer or just bring in the GTi in 5 door only and the Scirrocco...oh well.
