Trade in GTI for Scirocco R? Thoughts

    Hey guys,

I have a 2010 MK6 GTI and I was seriously considering trading/selling it and getting the Scirocco R.

    GTI's Car Sales Victoria with similar spec and KM's = $40,000 - $45,000

Redbook seems to be way off the mark with: $31,000 - $35,000 private sale and $27,000 - $30,000 dealer price.

    Redbook

I was only going to consider the Scirocco R if I could get around the $40,000 - $45,000 going on carsales at the moment.

Is this entirely unreasonable to expect this and is Red Book more accurate?

What are peoples thoughts on upgrading from the GTI to Scirocco R?

How many kays are on your GTI?

Only one way to find out, advertise it on carsales and see what happens. Who knows, there maybe a buyer who is after the options that are on your car.

Well I went to my local VW Dealer and was told they would give me $32,000 for the GTI. The sales rep actually encouraged me NOT to sell it through them and to do a private sale. He said I should expect between $40,000 - $45,000 with a private sale considering my specs.

The only thing I need to weigh up is if the Scirocco R is worth the extra money for what is really a GTI with:

    30KW Extra
    50NM Extra
    Coupe Style
Xeonons and LEDS (I don't have these on GTI)
    19" Alloys.

What I loose out on from the GTI is:

    - No Park Assist
    - No Reversing Camera
    - No 3 Seats in the back (not a big deal to me)
    - Potential risk that MK4 Scirocco/ MK7 GTI/R come out in 2012 and I will want to upgrade all over again.

I would be very suprised if the MK4 Scirocco or MK7 GTI / R come out in 2012.

If you are happy with your car then stick to it.

If you can afford to lose 10k+, then yer go ahead and order the Scirocco R

I'm in a similar boat to you.

As much as I love the Scirocco - one of the reasons why I wanted a 3dr GTI; if it's not that much better to drive than a GTI, then it may not be worth it. I've got an APR stage 2 setup going on the GTI and it makes driving the car in stock tune seem BORING.

only reason to move to a scirocco is for the looks imo. running a stg2 gti will be pretty similar in power to the golf r and scirocco r

If you goto the effort of going stage 2 on a gti im sure there would be no hesitation in going stage 2 on a scirocco. Coming from an old s3 and having driven my mates golf r the power delivery on the gti is just boring.

But i cant really justify a scirocco when im trying to get my project finished!

Drive the Scirocco and see if is worth the extra 10K or so - you might love it, you might rather stick with what you have, or spend 10K on the gti....

    1. dont need park assist, it's a hatchback, and you're not spastic.
    2. i learned how to reverse a 4WD with a trailer on the back, into tight spaces and around corners using my eyes and mirrors, simply by playing grand theft auto. you really, really, really, really, really dont need a reversing camera on a small car...
    3. saw a scirocco r at the snow with gear for 4, as well as 4 people in it. went and had a chat with him, back seat passengers looked like they were comfy enough (with a car full of outerwear and snowboard boots etc etc)

visually, they are "phwoooarrr!" on the road. they look so friggin badass.

    i'd love one.

I'm in a similar position too. Looking at selling/trading a 2 year old Tiguan for a rocco. As previously said I think it all comes down to how much you really want the rocco. I'll be looking at dropping 10-15k on the Tiguan but i REALLY want the Scirocco. As for Redbook I've found its been wildly inaccurate in the past.
