Did you trade your GTI against the Rocco? What sort of price did you get?
Well, been thinking about it for a long time. Upgrading that is. I'm in a 2010 GTI APR Stage 1 right now.
Took both the Golf R and the Scirocco R for a spin. Golf R...eh. Was nice, don't get me wrong. And I know the mod potentials are insane for it. But still, not my cup of tea. Lacks that excitement you get from a FWD car.
Scirocco...it's like a GTI on a bit of cocaine. Much more responsive. Fun car to drive. And looks the sh*&s
That said, put a deposit down today on a white Scirocco R with pan. roof and sat nav. Landing in the country 23 of March. Was not allocated to anyone. Snapped it up quickly.

Yeah traded it in. They gave me $37, which I was VERY happy with (esp from a dealer). I couldn't be stuffed selling it personally for what, an extra few k?
I also managed to get them to knock off $1k from the Scirocco, and I'm the worlds worst negotiator. Imagine someone who was good at it!

Yeah I prolly could have. It has a bit of wear and tear on it. Scratches, gutter rash, etc. Private sale, that would have affected it. Dealer didn't care =)

Having now driven all three and with no allegiance to one or the others (I'm not coming from a VW) I found all three quite distinct in their own driving styles and with pros and cons.
GTI is proabably the most practicle of the lot and the a great blend of driveability, civility and performance. Cons to me are it's a little bland and a bit like a*#eholes (or WRXs from a few years back !) in that everyone has one.
Golf R has 90% of the practicality of the GTI, performes a quantifiably load better in stock trim and still maintains a civil air and driveability to it. Cons ? Still looks a little bland.
Scirocco looks great (from the front & side...I'm, not sold on the back end styling), performs well and drives brilliantly on about 75% of road surfaces. Cons ? The 25% of road surfaces it doesn't ride or handle well on. Practicality isn't as good as what it appears. The boots is reasonably sized but not as big as it appears and the high loading lip and smaller opening will make the actual boot volume less useful than at first appears.
So to me it would all depend upon what drove you to purchase a GTI in the first place and what experience with that indicates to you that you could live without and what you would like to improve upon.
Personally I've ruled out the Scirocco for myself (I need some element of practicality due to my business) and have settled on a Golf R unless some miraculously good GTI deal pokes its head up when I go to put my money down on one next week. The other issue is that there are both variants of the Golf ready to go in stock around the place whereas all of the Siroccos that are available immediately seem to be non specced up.
Yeah I agree with that right up. I'm single, so practicality has no play in my decision. I wanted to go for a bit of looks, and better performance than the GTI.
I'm guessing I got really lucky with this, as it is optioned as I wanted, in the colour I wanted. Still have no VIN (so maybe the car doesn't even exist!!! ), but then again I haven't signed the paperwork yet. Only put a deposit over the phone.

That's a pretty fair assessment I would have thought.
In the end something has to wins out - looks, performance, all rounder abilities or something else. Life as they as is a compromise.
For me the choice of the Scirocco came about because I was wanting something a bit more fun and a little bit more practical than the 135i (the boot rather than hatch is a bit limiting for me at time), while offering about the same real world performance but not as commonplace as the Golf R/GTI. I've owned a GTI in the past, we have a Tiguan 147 as the second car so I'm used to and happy with the VW product.
