Biggest problem for you at the moment is that the Golf is on a drive away campaign , so a new 3 dr GTi is starting at around $40k

I noticed this, however ontop of that 40K i have:

    DSG
    Sunroof
    Park Assist
    RNS510
    Reversing Camera
    Bluetooth
    18" Detroits

I know that you need to factor in depreciation onto the car, but with all that kit on the car, I was hoping to get at least 40K for it.

All the dealers I have spoken to, have returned my calls or my first email, but then after that, have gone all quiet.

And I really can't be bothered chasing them. So its making the whole process leave a sour taste in my mouth.

With so many new cars coming out next year I think ill wait till its launched and take it for a test drive before I make my mind up:

    Next year we have:

    - Toyota FT-86
    - Hyundai Genesis Coupe
    - Subaru BR-Z
    - Honda CR-Z (Maybe a Type R Varient?)
    - Hyundai Veloster (1.6 Turbo with GTI matching power has been leaked aswell)

    - Holden Volt (Something slightly left of field, but I think its a cool car.)

So I'm going to keep it in my pants and wait and see how these cars turn out.

The Scirocco is IMO/IME a totally different car to the GTI. It is nicer to drive being more nimble yet feeling planted, you can feel the difference in a simple test drive. It is also not boring to drive in spite of the increased refinement over the MkV.

All one needs to do is take one out for a test drive.

I own a Pirelli which is much closer to it (performance and fun factor) than the MkVI GTI is. The Scirocco and Pirelli share the same engine, yet the difference is enough to convince me that I want one. It is not only good looking but handles/drives differently to the (IMO/IME very boring) MkVI GTI.

If I owned a MkVI GTI, I would definately dump it for the Scirocco - it is a no brainer. The fun factor alone is worth it.
Camerooney sold his MkVI GTI because it was so boring to drive (his own assessment) to get a Subie WRX.

Dollars aside as only you can make those decisions the scirocco has a completely different character to the golfs - gti or R's. They may look familiar and have common parts but the way those parts work together make the cars very different. Not saying one is better than the other but that they have different purpose in mind.

Scirocco - drive one and see.

In terms of gti mkvii that is going to be more than a year away. The international golf release is sep 2012, the gti and r months after that. My guess is mid 2013. The mkiv scirocco international release doesn't look like being until 2014 according to the VWA MD. That probably means 2015 here.

There is always something new on the horizon. Drive an R and then decide if you are prepared to wait!

Hahaha was that yours? He said he loved it!

So did you compare with an R and GTI before purchasing?

The Scirocco is a totally different car dynamically to the "everyone's got one" GTI: far wider rear track and considerably wider front track, so it's a lot more stable to drive. It's a totally different - and far more accomplished - car to drive, and also has far better brakes and suspension. The GTI is just a mainstream hatchback that's pretty gutless and boring to look at, if the truth be known. Yes, you can re-flash it, but you can also re-flash the Scirocco.

Anyone who thinks the Scirocco is just a GTI with a bit more power clearly needs to go and drive both back to back Mine finally arrives next week
