I've found VW resale to be quite good. In the Canstar lists they tend to be quite dominant in the top for value retention, generally at least as good as the likes of Toyota & Subaru. Far better than Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and the higher end European brands.Quote:

Well turns out the Mustang didn't get the guernsey it was in fact a GTI 40 years which got the final nod of approval from Mrs Dutch.
I think insurance costs on some of the older Euro 8's were a factor as well as the fact that Dutch really was a Holden man at heart.
Yep, sticking with where the modern day interest lie. Got close on a couple of Rs before common sense ruled and went with something a touch more unique, and away from the **** pulling contests that cloud the R scene now (and for that matter the RS3/A45 stuff as well).Quote:

The Euro 8s are all great vehicles, but I don't have the mechanical knowledge or desire to deal with the inevitable headaches that will crop up from owning one. And Lucas has already done the Lexus thing. :)

Like any manufacturer Ford has to learn from their mistakes along the way ... (hopefully)
The 2019 GT's have a new engine (direct + port injection plus new cylinder heads) resulting in more power than the 206-2018 models. Unfortunately it seems this new head does have some cooling issues .... its also their 1st attempt at duel injection so perhaps this will improve.
The 2019 auto (10spd shared with the new Camaro) is also prone to overheating I understand.
The sweet spot in that range is the 2017 manual GT with apparently no major issues. Incidentally this is what I have and recommends, it also apparently outsells the auto by a factor of 2:1 . The 6sp auto in the 2016--2018 models is more robust (though a bit slower) than the new 10spd.
The changes to the 2019 model (including a digital dash like the R) was such that I'd wait for the teething issues to be sorted before I buy. I apply that rule to all the cars I buy and will not buy a new car that has been out on the market for less than 12 months. Most manufacturers make mistakes in new designs and need time to have those identified (unfortunately mostly by their customers) and then find solutions. Like VW that has failed to actually fix the dry clutch DSG 7spd, still today 10 years after it came onto the market!
ED40 will be fun though (with some suitable mods), enjoy!
