    Spacesaver spare

One thing I do not like about my Scirocco is the lack of any type of spare. It is not something I am too worry about around town but the idea of not having anything to replace a shredded tyre on a longer country run concerns me.

Has anyone out there purchased themselves a spacesaver spare?

I was advised that the Golf R space saver would be suitable for the Roc R too.

I'm not sure on exact measurements, but it might be a good starting point?

Just a quick bump to find out if anyone's purchased this spacesaver?

If it works, it's a good idea using the Golf R spare.. Anyone have an idea on price for this part??

The key things with getting a spacesaver spare wheel is the overall diameter and the bolting pattern. Having the same offset as a standard wheel is good, but you are not supposed to fit a spacesaver wheel to the front of a vehicle so offset is not that critical.

Basically all you need to do is match the same tyre size of your standard wheel with that of the car the spacesaver is coming from to match the overall diameter, and then it is the bolting pattern.

On price, the only thing I could find was a couple of listings on ebay

Well the self healing tyres are certainly not self healing.
I was told upto a 6mm puncture will be sealed by the "goop"
Well a single screw proved that wrong.
Stranded on the side of the road...all dressed up and no place to go.
Space saver would have saved the day.

My next car may very well have no space saver either. So to ease my mind with my planned purchase I was researching ways of dealing with life in such a situation and found this video incredibly useful.

The only extra kit I would carry is compressed air to re-inflate the tyre.

the other option if you don't want to carry a spare is when your OEM bridgestone RE050A's wear out replace them with the RE050A (assuming you like the OEM tyres) RFT version. the run flats are work pretty well these days.

I got a puncture in the rear tyre of my R35 GTR (when it was nearly brand new). was half way between syd and melbourne and changing a 295/20 inch tyre at night would be not fun. the run flat held up perfectly well even at reasonable speed. I think they are worth having.

to be honest the scirocco should have come with the run flats as standard.
