Factory Wheels Buckled

Hi all just put my 2012 Scirocco R in for its 45K service today and I needed to change tyres.....the service manager tells me my rims (all) have slight buckling and its very common on the factory rims for the R. Has anyone had similar experience with their factory wheels???

When you sat the rims are buckled, where are they buckled? On the bead area or elsewhere?

when you see potholes, do you just drive over them or make an attempt to avoid?

i learned my lesson well over 15 years ago through 2 sets of buckled wheels that: low profile tyres under 45 vs potholes = potholes win.

235 35 19 tyres do not have much cushion on the sidewall to absorb any hit, especially if the tyre pressure is under 40psi, hence any hit is absorbed pretty much directly by the wheels.

ps: this is not just happening to factory wheels, in fact any 19" and 20" can end up in the same situation if not driven with caution.

Geez, considering how bad our roads are in Brisbane then mine are probably stuffed as well. What did he recommend you actually do about it?

i've got a buckle in at least one of mine. Drove out tamborine before the road works one night... no time to react following a Volvo who just crashes through them lol... Oh well
Annoying because i have owned cars with low profiles for years and this is the first time ive managed to damage them.
These can be fixed i think if it's not too bad?

the roads at mt tamborine area can be very challenging after days of heavy rain. the road is brittle and holes easily pop up at places.

last time i went for a cruise with a group of awesome vw cars / drivers, one of us with 19" wheel / tyre fell victim of a massive pothole.

i avoided that particular pothole by a slim margin too.

not the type of sunday morning relaxing drive to enjoy.....
