    Silly Question Time

    OK
I've had the Scirocco now for just over 2 months and still wrapped in the sound and the way it goes !!
About 2200kms on the clock and still trying to think of places to go ...............
Think it has been washed more times than it has been driven...

    Now for the silly questions....

Under each door there is a bracket that lodges into a slot in the inner sill - any idea what they do - is the some kind of latch in there ?

#1 I think is there to align the door / structural integrity because the door is so big.

#2 Is likely the place for the break down triangle or the first aid kit which we seem to get gipped on in Australia.

I was thinking that it looks like an addition to improve results after crash testing.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

#1 Yep, long doors, no window frame, similar arrangement is found in VW Eos which also has long doors and no window frames.

#2 Maybe best explained here (scroll down to see the pic) :-

Never had frameless doors before and must admit that I didn't give it a lot of thought
Being so big and without the top frame they could be vulnerable from side impact,
meaning the door could lift at the bottom and roll in if hit in the centre towards the top.
pinning it in the centre at the bottom would stop that and make it a lot stronger

As Jets said, maybe added after crash testing

That figures-- breakdown triangle and first aid kit not required by legislation so we don't get them
not much per car but over 1000's it adds up - helps their profit and that is what the whole game is about

    Cheers
