If the label on the timing belt cover isn't sufficient enough for them, they'll need to do some digging.
It's on the front side of the block, at the gearbox end, running vertically.
It's pretty-well hidden.
So I bought a scirocco r from Victoria and drive it to Adelaide, today I took it to regency for its identification check! They refused to identify it as they couldn't locate the engine number in the engine ! Does anyone know the location of it as they advised certain parts need removing and I need to have it done at a professional garage and a picture needs to be taken!
i tried showing them the invoice from the Audi dealership I bought it from but hope there not interested

You will need to go to VW and have it checked. They will provide you a letter head detailing the engine number and they will accept it.
